The controversy arose during the race meet Jan. 12 at Upalco, when snowmo-biler- s from Utah, Idaho and Wyoming congregated to participate in a WSRA and USA sanctioned race sponsored by the Moon Lake Snow Mobile Association. The sponsors report that visiting were upset and angry by the way they were treated by Utah Parks and Recreation rangers. The subject of admission fees was the basis for the confrontation. Everyone entering the private land where the race was held, including snow mobile owners, race officials, etc., had aid an admission fee. Ticket takers attempted to sell admission tickets to the snow-mobilc- Utah's federal aid apportionment for year 1974 has been finalized, according to Sam King, federal aid coordinator for the Division of Wildlife Resources. King reports Utah's Pitlman-Robert-soallotment is $883,779.81 for wildlife restoration. Hunter safety funds total $41,660 which can be applied to wildlife restoration if not used for hunter safety. Dingell-Johnsomonies for Utah amount to $245,728.91 for fisheries restoration. Pittman Robertson monies are derived from an excise tax on sporting arms and ammunition. Apportionment to the states is based on the number of license holders, population and area of each state. Utah's federal aid monies are used in a variety of ways. Officials state, "They were unpleasant and discourteous to the racers and others who spoke to them." In the course of the exchange, a ticket was issued to Leon Harding, the owner of the property on which the race was held, because of dealer plates on his machine. The race was reportedly delayed for some two hours, and the services of the Duchesne County Sheriff were asked before the race continued. 2 e uld 2 Mr. Wise reminded employers of household help that they should give their employees W-- 2 forms for 1973 by Jan. 31. The Utah District Director said the new requirement to provide W-- forms also applies to the employee who left the job before the end of the calendar year. Such employees should receive a W-form or an equivalent statement within 30 days after their last payday. 2 2 Although an equivalent of the form is acceptable, Mr. Wise said W-- 2 the IRS prefers that employers use the familiar form, since it assists the employee in preparing his federal income tax return. In addition to giving domestic help a W-form, employers should file Copy A of each employee's W-- when filing the Form 942 for the quarter ending Dec. 31, 1973 (or with the Final return for an earlier quarter). The 942 form is the Employers Quarterly Tax Return for household employees. Form SS-1formerly used by some employers to record employee wage and tax information, is obsolete, Mr. Wise said. W-- 2 Award to 2 2 Woodrow Nielson Woodrow Nielson, Soil Scientist for the Soil Conservation Service stationed by Roosevelt was presented a certificate of merit for sustained above average work performance and a quality, within grade salary increase. The award was presented by Bruce Lindahl at the Area staff meeting in Provo Jan. 10, 1974. Mr. Nielson's area of work responsibility covers the Uintah Baisn, Daggett Co., and Southeastern Utah. , n Three county Players score In statistics Two Altamont stars and one from Duchesne are the only Duchesne county players to be listed as top scorers in this weeks statistics. Gary Stringham with a 24.6 points per game (PPG) average leads all Region Ten scorers and is the fifth highest scorer in the stale. In second place is Duchesne Eagle Mark Hall with a 23.5 average and he is tied for tenth high scoring honors in the sate. Joe Fieldsted of Altamont is the fifth leading scorer in Region Ten with 18.6 ppg average. Farmers tax Now available The 1974 edition of the Farmer's Tax Guide," IRS Publication 225, is now available free from Internal Revenue Service offices and county Agents, it was announced today by Roland V. Wise, IRS District Director for Utah. Distributed primarily to aid farmers in completing their tax returns, the pamphlet shows by example how to complete the Form 1040 and accompanying schedules. The publication also lists important "tax dates for farmers as a handy reference for use throughout the year. Written in easy to understand language, the lax guide contains many examples of how to report farming transactions for federal income tax purposes, as well as many useful hints on record keeping, Mr. Wise said. Named to the high school status was Kent Brown, Duchesne high school.
