In what turned out to be a nightmare for their parents, and a real ordeal for the Duchesne County Sheriffs office and jeep posse, but nothing but a hike for the boys. Ted and Ricky Hackford. sons of Lynn and Leora Hackford, Hancock Cove, told their parents, they were going to hike in the hills Sunday afternoon, January 13. Unknown to the parents, the boys, took bed rolls, rooking utensils, something to eat and lit out. When they didn't return home by dusk, the parents started looking for them and when they hadn't found them by Monday morning the sheriffs office was notified and they, with the help of the jeep posse and other volunteers spent Monday and Tuesday searching and tracking and finally locating the pair about three and a half miles below Duchesne on the river. According to Sheriff George Marett, the boys were fine and not near as tired as he and his men were. It's a wonder they were alright, after spending all that time out in the cold and snow.
