Show n The I )A Chamber Maid Roosevelt Area Chamber of Commerce flv Iaulu O. Bell I really appreciate I hi support wc received at the annual banquet held at the Frontier Cafe Thursday evening. If felt the ev tiling was very enjoyable. The (Mid was delirious and the speaker tremendous. Fred Kali, Exrrutive Vice President of the Salt take Chamber of Commerce delivered an outstanding ora tion on the merits of a chamber of commerce, its responsibilities and the responsibilities of its members. Dorothy Lurk and Phyllis Oberhansly entertained the group with musical numbers. Hearts given by Clarin Ashby, Ed Riggs and myself relating to past activities of the chamber were most informative. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the evening. I appreciated, also, Jack Muiere taking pity on me when I was shoveling the walks this .morning, lie came over with his tractor and blade and pushed the snow away from the parking area and sklewalks in front of the office. Good nieghbors are priceless. Thanks Jack. I have asked different persons to write my column for the next few weeks. This and week Kay tabrum, past director will express her views. Paula asked me if I would write her column this week to set if perhaps I could reach those people in whom I have the most in common. I am therefore writing to the businessmen, merchants, citizens, wives and mothers of our community. There are those of you who would agree with a friend of mine that you see the same people at the head of every organization - and the same people complaining about all the things that they do and the decisions they make - certainly the ones who are criticizing are not the ones that are making those decisions if they were they would not he so quick to criticize their own efforts. I for one do not like other people making many of the decisions concerning my life, or the life of my children, which concerns business, church, civic and com munity living for hundreds of years to come. I am interested enough to want my vote counted in all these derisions, your city is run by six officials, your chamber of commerce by nine or ten, your churches, ususally by one main leader. If you du not participate, attend meetings, vote, etc., then these decisions are made by those who are put in authority, by those in attendance. They are the ones who vote on bond issues, meet with the Governor, build golf courses, plan new water systems, brine in new industry, plan zoning laws, make new laws, levy additional taxes, more roads and highways, plan tourism programs, promote business. I believe that you are concerned tx, the leaders of all these organizations need your help, they want your voire and vote to be counted, they want you to be in volved. Who would not rather sit at home in the evenings by a warm cozy fire, or take a day off to play golf, go boating, skiing, motorcycle riding, hunting and etc., than attend a meeting or work on a committee, but if you really rare, then don't let someone else make all these decisions that directly affect your lives, the lifes of your children and your community for years to come. Commit yourself to action in those areas that directly concern you, your life and the lives of your children. tat your vote count, so that those you cIhmmc are making the decisions that you want made. Then you ran say I did all I could. I cannot complain. I do not mind being quoted, but please make sure that it is a direct quote, not one added to. Don't be an almost person, take just a little more effort and say I did it". playing the Tabby Tigers at Duchesne, Eagles!
