Thirteen students Irom Orchard Elementary School placed in the event. Presenting at Weber Slate is the culmination ol several months of gathering and of composing that information into a meaningful presentation. irst plate went Projeet boards: to Chris Claik. Bradnn Johnson. Steven Wilding and Seth Wood, all in 4th grade. Their project was on the Berlin Wall. They even had a piece of the wall to display. Second place was awarded to Vanessa Argyle, also a 4th grader. She researched and presented on the Yellowstone fires. Her board had many pictures and a time line detailing the fires. Third place went to Ian Doherty Keaton McDonald and Cody Speneei. 5th giade They did an excellent pioject on Saltair. Blackhurst, a senior, won the same award in 1996 in competition with more than 200 of Utahs brightest high school students. He totaled the most points in morning academic testing in math, science, social studies and language arts. Blackhursts Bountiful Braves, always one of the strongest teams in the field, but never the Stars Wars winner, won that coveted trophy this week at USUs Olympiad. It was the 13th straight year USU has sponsored the competition for Utah and Idaho high (Alex Smart, Roy) and Language Arts (Mike Eltfritz, Bonneville). Those winners are offered four-yea- r scholarships by USU. While Blackhurst defended his championship as the overall points winner, Jayson Criddle of Davis was second (he finished third a year ago) and Chris Monson of and Shelby Pearson, 5th grade.
