Cannon recently came before the council to request 14 acres of the property be rezoned from agricultural to A, a zone which would with the good of the community. She believes that since in the past the city had allowed a zone for the salvage yard and held to it, they coidd hold to another 14 acres for the Cannon family without hurting the community. But Councilmernber Darin Hicks more desirable to buyers. He questioned why the salvage yard was allowed the zoning, when his property across the street is not allowed the same zoning. I think the zoning have asked for more details when they agreed to put in half the road. He said the city spot zones for a said he felt the Cannons should purpose and he called Cannons request, too great for consideration. They should have asked for more details before committing to would be compatible with that across the street. He said he would agree to the stipulation that only a portion of the land have open storage on it. While the Cannons have struck no deal for the lands purchase, several parties have expressed an interest in it But most want an area they can use for open storage. Councilmentber Larry Landward asked facetiously, What kind of storage are we talking about here? Beehives?" Cannon said it would be used mainly for trucks and heavy equipment. Such storage is allowed under the zoning, but is required to be hidden by a fence. Councilmernber Lise Tuttle said in her opinion the city has to balance the rights of property owners make the property easier to sell because it allows open storage. Cannon also requested a portion indusof the property be zoned trial. a request the council agreed to. When the salvage yard was relocated to the site at 2425 S. 2000 West, just off Redwood Road, the city and the Cannon family built a road on the Cannon property which is presently zoned A-- l agricultural. Now, the Cannon family wants the land zoned But the city says it's not compatible with the general plan. And any change in the plan would have to be made jointly by the council and planning -i, 1A presenting his plan to the council. Cannon questioned the city's general plan. If I leave the land agricultural, it would be allowed, but other uses are not necessarily compatible with the city image. Hicks said moving the salvage yard from the center of the city to the Redwood Road site was a positive move, making the land the salvage yard was on available for residential use. In scheduling the joint meeting the road. with the planning commission, Landward suggested the city remain open to new views. "There might be constructive cnticism of the past in light of what we want to do in the future. CENTERVILLE When Terry Lotz stopped to move an object out of the street on 825 North just below 400 East in Centerville, he had no idea he had stumbled on a someones famipiece of history ly history'. A few weeks ago, Lotz found a photo album lying in the street near his home. When he and his wife, Marilyn, examined the album they were surprised to discover it contained at least 50 photographs taken in the late 1800s. The photographs were all taken in professional photographic studios in mostly eastern and Midwestern states. A handwritten note on the front cover of the album reads, To Dolly - From her friend John Fraser 1889. Marilyn Lotz spent the next several days calling people in the area with the last name Fraser, but was unable to find the albums rightful owner. She even had all the LDS wards in her area make an announcement regarding the album in church meetings. Several weeks have gone by and no one has stepped forward to claim the album and Lotz is afraid that whoever lost the album may have been moving when it was lost. She is concerned that by the time the albums owners discover it is missing, they may be out of the area and have no idea where to look for the lost heirloom, This is obviously somebodys genealogy, and an important part of their family history, they have to be missing it, she said. Anyone with any information about the photo album please call 5 . the Clipper at 295-22- WX TAX budget public hearing slated continued from front Whopping tax jump angers mobile home owners for the mobile home Circuit ago and has since put another $15,000 or more into upgrades.
