Show Vikes Gomclydle successful season Doug Lang Sports Writer Two out of three aint bad for a start, when Davis County schools played in the 4A and 5A soccer tournament. The Lady Wildcats of Woods Cross and Davis Lady Darts came out with dramatic wins in the semifinals on Monday, while the Lady Vikings of Viewmont fell short in their bid for a championship. For the Vikes the story was not that pretty. In the Battle of the Views Viewmont met last years state champions in the powerful Mountain View Bruins. The Bruins scored first blood with the only goal of the game at 22:02 in the first period when Rebecca Myers scooted the ball past goalie Kristel Whitten. The entire year the Vikes have been able to come back and win the close games, but not on Monday as they could not get the fire lit to score the tying goal. The Lady Bruins defense kept Viewmont backpedal-in- g and finally as the refs whistle blew signaling the games end, the Bruins realized that they had a chance to repeat and face the winner of the game. After the contest Viewmonts head coach Richard Cook, tears in Davis-Bright- his eyes and in his teams eyes, gave the season a rundown. We really wanted this win but you cant always win. We have had a great season and the kids played super the whole year. If I could have this team back I would go to battle with them tomorrow. This is a great team. Davis 4, Brighton 2 In the last game of the night the Darts faced the Bengals in a hard fought contest. The first period saw Brighton totally dominate the Darts from the start. Jenn Nelson started the scoring with a goal six minutes in the first followed by Emily Sutherland squeezing one by the Davis goalie and the Darts looked like they had seen better days. After the half Brighton began where they left off taking the Darts out of their game plan. Davis head coach Curt Caldwell said Brighton took away their strengths. We came out flat in the first period and after the half we knew that we could pull this one off. We gave the ball to our speed on the outside and we started to hit on all pistons. Davis Julie Offret gave Megan Jensen a great assist and Jensen scored goal number one at 27:33 left giving the Darts life. At 22:20 Melanie Miller hit number two tying the game followed by Offret hitting number three only a minute later giving the Davis faithful new hope and the Brighton fans a gas attack. Miller iced the game for Davis with number four with only eight minutes left in the game sending fans home looking to next season and Davis heading for the championship. After a dramatic win a tired Megan Jensen gave her team a lot of credit. This game just kind of happened. We had nothing to lose and we just had to go after it and win. We had to just play our game and keep working and keep fighting and GOOD SEASON: Viewmont's Becky Chidester rifles a kick from midfield during a Vikings won the Region 2 title this year and advanced to the 5A semifinals. game last week. The keep it rolling. Caldwell gave Brighton many kudos. Brighton is a great team. With five minutes left in the game we just had to open up the flood gates and step back and watch.
