Skill improvement must occur during practice not during performance. When errors occur in performance the athlete should take a couple of slow deep breaths while visualizing how it feels to do the skill correctly and move on. The worst mistake is to analyze or try to identify the errors. Such an approach will lead to choppy execution and very poor focus. Focus is best obtained, maintained, and regained by enjoying performance, taking a relaxed but challenged approach. Peak performance and perfect focus are the result of being in the moment and trusting your mind to know what to do and how to do it. An athlete will know where and when to focus when they let themselves become immersed in the perfor mance by mov ing occur and most on when errors importantly remembering that performance is fun. Bountiful would make a run at the Vikes with good rebounding from Rich Hadley and a strong shooting touch Olsen and from Doug Christensen. Early in the second period Christensen tried his imitation of the Harlem Globetrottes as he called for time out only to then race to the basket for an apparent score but the refs just shook their heads as they gave the ball to the Vikes. With the game clock running down the Braves made another run at the Vikes only to have their hopes dashed against the gym walls as the Vikes limped away with the win. After the game both Steve Anderson and Morrell replied how they felt, both said, Just tired. On the other side of the floor, both Christensen and Hill said it was a heck of a lot easier to be on the coaching end of the game than the playing end. In golf, the focus or attention during a putt should be on the line the ball wall take and the feel of the stroke, not on the score on that hole or the shot that led to the putts position on the green. For every skill and every situation there are appropriate cues that given attention will result in success. Likewise, there are cues that if attended to will distract and interfere with successful performance. In performance when errors are made on a skill that was easily done in practice, loss of focus or inappropriate focus is almost always the cause. All skills require attention to cues that direct the sequencing of the skill.
