In Utah and throughout the west, that help may come from the Bountiful Jeep Posse. The organization is the oldest jeep posse in the United States. Its name is The Official Bountiful Jeep Posse, a name which goes back to its roots in 1946. Back then, four-whedrive vehicles were about the only vehicles available for rescue work, said Jeff Leavitt, a member and first captain of the posse. Today, the 56 members of the Bountiful Jeep Posse have about 100 drive vehicles, 50 snowmobiles, two snow cats and 50 horses, plus boats, scuba gear and equipment. Through the years theyve been called out on a wide range of rescues, most recently posse murderer Ted Bundy confessed to her murder. They also helped in Idaho when the Teton Dam broke. The organization does more than search and rescues too. Members did most of the work cleaning up Mueller Park several years ago, so the public wouldnt have to pay entrance fees.
