An effective offensive pattern at the plate seemed all but lost when Dixies hurler sent 12 Dinos back to the dugout on strikeouts. several had Carbon op- portunities for making a game of it in the second and sixth innings when the determined Dinos boarded men on bases and into scoring position. Trouble with the bat, however, deadened any Dino hopes as strikeouts for the final two outs retired the side and put the visitors back on the defensive. The Dinos bid in the second inning started with singles by sophomores Tony Regis and Joe Tiyon putting them on first and second base. Tony Gianoulis had flied out earlier in the inning, leaving Carbon ample opportunity to score. The pitching strength of Troy Jolley on the mound for Dixie was too much for the next two Dino batters who struck out in succession on four pitches to stifle any Carbon hopes. In the sixth inning Carbon loaded the bases, but again the last two Carbon sluggers fell victim to the Jolley jitters and struck out to end the inning. The team of Bigelow, Poulos, Van Wagoner, and Harwood added to the girls total by bringing in a sixth place finish in the mile relay with a 4:36.32 time. Dino womens track coach, Charlene Dupin, was especially pleased since Carbon brought home the only two trophies given in the girls division.
