Patchwork Piece by Kristen Diamanti Taylor It can happen anywhere. Even in the grocery store. Especially on a snowy day. I hear a soft southern drawl and suddenly Im whisked away to a white columned porch. A soft southern breeze is blowing my hair and Im sipping a tall, mint julep! Although Margaret Morgan, and her husband Richard (who have lived here for five years) now consider themselves oldtimers" and their speech is still liberally sprinked with yalls. The Morgans were transferred from Division of Middlesboro, Ky., by Fan Steel where Richard is employed. Margaret admits there were two difficulties adjusting to living in the area: First, it was really hard to be away from our families. However, the hardest adjustment was your dry climate. The first week, I felt like I had aged ten years. After Richard left for work, I would pull all my hair back and smear straight vaseline all over my cracked face! Since that time, the Morgans have adjusted to the community and have become quite active in the Notre Dame Home School Association where their two children, Holly and Kim, are enrolled. Margarets down home southern cooking has become very popular, too. She has agreed to share some of her favorites. n, Senior Citizen Center noon HMS: Wednesday, March Pork chops; 1 p.m. - Ceramics; 1 p.m. bowling; 7 p.m. - art.
