They do a great job and offer a tremendous service to the community. However, when I read the phrase about geriatric couples dancing, I became a little upset. Geriatrics is the branch of medicine that deals with the diseases and hygiene of old age. The term geriatric should not be used to describe an elderly person. Pediatrics is the branch of medicine dealing with the care of children and their diseases. I am sure no one refers to children as a group of pediatrics playing in the yard. Carolyn Randall, Emery County Senior Citizens Director. Editors note The Random House Dictionary, 1973, defines geriatric as an adjective pertaining to aged persons. UNITE IF WE CAN Are we a resourceful nation or are we a nation counting on foreign countries to help take care of us. We could have our own resources if the government would let go of the working man and have more jobs by not importing. We could make our economy more efficient if the government would give up some of the taxes which it feels it needs. We could then have solar energy in our homes, store energy and let our own resources take care of any gap until we could put something else in effect instead of dragging our feet. The power plants, coal mines, factories and other businesses would not have any excuse to raise rates, because they would not be pointing their finger at us but at companies that require more electrical power. There would be plenty of power the way it is without having to build more plants for a long time. Our government, is too busy with other foreign problems. We have much away to other They have begun to dont like it and dont it. counties given too countries. expect it, appreciate What is our country doing? Spending too much of this countrys pride and respect? Is this our war that Carter is talking about? Is it ours or someone elses? The other countries have the same military equipment as we do because our government has furnished it to them. The common workers gripes: The government is taking and not giving anything back to the people for their own needs but pressure. We are fighting a losing battle. People do not need this pressure in order to feel good about themselves. We are losing our freedom. I can see our country looking weak which is no good for Americans. The foreign countries have come into our country with their businesses and run American companies out of business. This has been the case with the car industry, steel industry, oil industry and others. Because of the governments inflation plan, the working man gets a raise and the government takes it. Then when there is a new contract the government puts one plans into effect (such as the price freeze) so that you do not get a better contract but one that is less than the one we had in the past. Again the government forgot the working man. Prices go up and we are stuck holding the bag again. This is what the government calls taking care of inflation. In regard to retirement: some people dont want to quit until they are 65. Others would like to retire way before but cant. Others work and shouldnt. People with heart diseases and crippling chance. They because have no illnesses cant give up the boat they have too many The in to retire. government has taken a large percentage of our pay checks each pay period. Why not give it back to these people? They need it much more. Social security is a joke. If social security is so good why do you never hear of a president on it or welfare? If you would like to see these ideas made into political issues, meet with us at 9 a.m., March 8, at the recreational area two miles north of Huntington on the road to Moorland. During this meeting if we feel further action should be taken to organize committees to take action. Please support what you believe in. No drinking! Be smart, make it the matter it is. Dick Allred years York University stated, Obscene communications may make it hard, even impossible to control the cravings that are meant to arouse. Our liberties are based on our willingness to accept the responsibility for them. If we turn our backs on the responsibility we lose those liberties for which we claim we are defending. Those of us who would insure that the immoral among us have the right to pursue any avenue they see fit, automatically turn over our liberties to an immoral society. This was never the intention of our founding fathers. Never in the history of the world has a nation stood that has come to believe and practice such a philosophy. The notion that we have only two alternatives, total license or a repressive censorship that would destroy all of our hard won freedom is irresponsible. There is no historical instance where control of obscene media materials has endangered other freedoms. I am sure that control in Price would not become the first such instance in democratic history. Kay H. Watt Price New ITS A FREE COUNTRY Dear Editor: I dont think you should stop to the Editor showing the movies. I personally think that if you do a lot of people would be very upset, because if we want to see them we should have a right to see what we want, after all its a free country. All those people that are against it dont have to go see them. After all there are a lot of other movies they can go see. They dont need to destroy the fun of those people who do want to movie. see an ed I bet that all of these people that are trying to stop the movies, or at least one half of them are still going to them instead of something decent. But then maybe they think that it is decent. Audrey Trease Scofield WE AREN'T FORCED To the Editor: This letter is directed at all of those people out there reading the paper who are tired of having more and more of their rights taken away from them. The Price City Council is in the process of drawing up a new ordinance to prevent the showing of movies or OBSCENE and I think it is high time we do something to try and prevent this ordinance from being passed. I think that the CITIZENS FOR DECENCY GROUP and all of the other people pushing for this ordinance must not have anything better to do than push us around. Why do they care what we watch? Nobody forces them to see these movies, so if they want to do something constructive why dont they take steps to make sure the age limits are strictly enforced etc..., instead of banning the movies altogether. The point that I am trying to get across is that those of us that want to see these movies and also those of us who are tired of the government trying to run every aspect of our lives should all get together. We should make a showing at the council meeting on March 12 instead of just letting them pass the ordinance and then sit around and complaining about it. Doug Trease Scofield GIVE ME FREEDOM Dear Editor, How can Price City even objectionable. A movie theatre is a business, not a public service. If many people did not want to see movies they would not be shown. People, you do not need the government to tell you what movies you should watch. If a movie is not up to your standards, dont go to it. But dont try to set my standards and tell me I cant go either. A few citizens should not be allowed to choose what the rest of us can or can not do for entertainment. city ordinance control their baser appetites. This is needed to protect us. We as a society dont have to be so foolish or masochistic as to allow the psychopathic and sick among us to use the media to destroy or harm us. In any democracy certain limits must be set to protect the majority of the citizens and insure their rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness against those who cannot control their appetites. We firmly believe in the freedom to travel where we wish and yet we have set laws to control the speed at which we get there.
