GG$G&$Z Congressman James Hansen is running for office. Agaiq. If he is elected this year, the eight-terrepresentative will serve nine terms, longer than any other Utah congressman. It ivjll be his ) 8th consecutive election victory, going back 36 years p whfP he first ran for city council in Farmington. Hes also beat niost pf Jjif opponents by major margins. The Lakeside Review randomly asked some area residents $vhy Hansen wins each election and why he wins so easily. They wpfg also asked what a Democrat would have to do to beat him. m Bill Pratt Ogden I think it's because he is honest and deals with people with integrity. Instead of tcling people what they want to hear, he finds out whjif it is they want him to do. I hate politics. The Democrats need (o have g good challenger somebody who isnt an incumbent, somebody new to that level of state and national politics. believe that personal integrity carries a great deal of weight in politics. I'm not seeing a whole lot of it anymore. I think a lot of them arc telling us what we want to hear rather than what they believe. They say what will get them the vote..." 1 Jill Palmer Roy I guess he docs his job or he's a good campaigner. A competitor would have to be rich to beat him and probably savvy as to what is going on in the political arena. And have a better line than Jim Hansen has. Its Paul Clark Roy LETTERS Answer to salvation found in Bible Letters 'This is a suggested solution for our moral sickness. - -- A recent editorial by Mr, Gil . Without our Lord Jesus we cannot gain life everlasting. By his free gift of grace we cannot fail to enter. My answer to my writer friend and fellow traveler in these troubled times is to take courage and find a Christian support group with a Godly Pastor who provides answers and leadership to those seeking solutions to life's problems. I find assurance and security and a joyous association in my walk with our Lord in Kaysville Bible Church. I would extend a challenge to those concerned with their own destiny or their friends; to come and walk with us on our happy journey in this life and beyond. John P. We appreciate you giving us the honor of being on the front page, and in color. Many people have called to say they really enjoyed the story. If only my tadpole friends could sec me now! One thing my family doesn't know about me is the fact that Im also a very smart toad. I like to get into this computer when they are gone. They have a computer disc on amphibians, and the centerfold of that female toad keeps the smile on my face and the croak in my croaker. She has one cool" body! Well, my family will be home soon, so I better get off this computer and get hoppin back to my tank! Thanks again, for giving me my of five minutes only two places of abode.) Hopper, in the Lakeside Review. Both of you conducted yourselves in a professional manner, and the Lakeside Review should be proud to have you on their staff. I I have no idea, because he should be beatable, because of the amount of government workers who live up north here. He has always been against government workers in every decision he makes in Congress. People in Utah get used to one person and thats all they will ever vote for. j They need to come up with conservative Democrats to run against him conservative in their views on abortion and all that stuff. To tell you the truth I haven't been paying much attention to it this year so I'm hot sure who would be the perfect candidate. I dont gel too involved in every election. I will just vote for anyone who is running against him. I won't vole for anyone in particular, just whoever is running against him. A Bill Orton candidate up here would be all right." fame. And just for the record, my birthday is in three weeks, (no presents please). I am also looking forward to my next vacation. We'll be heading to California this summer. While my family is at Disneyland, I think I'll hit the beach and check out the four-legg- females! Lavar Hansen Ogden I've never really followed him because they arc all crooked. They are in there for what they can get out of it and not for the people, I don't think, so I never pay much attention to politics other than for the president. 1 like Clinton. I didnt vote for him but I like him now. Clinton I think has done a good job sq far. I think I'd vote again for him. Jim Hansen, Ive never voted for. Hes a Republican and I'm Democrat. I cant remember ever voting for a Republican until last election when I did vote fora few Republicans, but I very seldom I ever do. For that reason I don't think the Republicans give the working man the chance that the Democrats do, in wages and jobs. It just isnt there with the Republicans. They are money where the Democrats arc for the poor and helping the laborer. I have nothing personal against him, I guess he's a good man, byt he's a Republican... Utah is a Republican state. I guess he docs all right, at least he must be doing all right, because people keep voting him in. As far as me voting for him. why hes Republican." Hoppy reporting! Hopper Karen Riley (Krisdee Olesen, Layton) Kaysville I wish he werent, think we are a lot of followers and we're afraid we might back somebody who won't win. I think a lot of people keep voting for him because he has won before and they think he wil win again. I don't know what they can do. I wish I did. Id like to see someone with integrity. I have no idea why he keeps getting in, Politics is one area I don't study a lot so I don't know what they need to straighten things out. "It's really disappointing to me to see things the way they are. You can't really feel comfortable with who you arc voting for as far as a person you can trust and represent you. As far as the health insurance problem it's gotten way out of hand when you have to pay $500 a month for health insurance for you and your husband just because you arent in a group policy when you have your own business. And it's not that great of coverage. And then trying to mess around with Medicare people, who really have been working all of their life and thinking they are going to be taken care of, now they are trying to take part of that away from them. We need somebody back there that wants to take care of the littlq people. "I dont know what it will take to beat him. Maybe it's the kind of person he is. People trust him so they vote for hint. If tljcre is no one running against him they can trust, they will vote for him. |
