Suppose one afternoon you come home from school, walk up to the front door and realize - that you cant get inside. You have lost your house key! Here are four possible solutions to this problem. (There are more than four solutions to this particular problem, but for right now, focus on judging these four). Lets You are still locked out of the house. What a mess! Its getting dark and your stomach is starting to rumble. Or is that the sound of thunder in the distance? Is it going to rain? What a problem, with more problems on the way as the moments tick by and the door remains locked. The consequences, or effects, of being alone and locked out of your house are basic: hunger discomfort fear. Maybe its time for another look at these four solutions. At this point you have considered the pros and cons. Continue the decision making process by thinking about the consequences of choosing one solution over another. That is, what effect or impact the solution would have. evaluate the first solution: Solution Priorities and values hat do you value? What is important to you? What do these two questions have to do with problem solving? So far, we have analyzed 1 problems and practiced generating different creative solutions. How do we select one solution over another? Its time to make a decision, a choice. When we make a decision we are guided by those things that we value, believe in, or ' consider important. Read the following list. Then, number the items from 1 to 8, with 1 being the most important and 8 the least. Think about why you numbered the list as you did. What do you value? What is important to you?
