Show 2C Lakeside Review, Wednesday. July 31, 1985 Sports Briefs Wahsatch Shooter Wins Meet Clearfields Bill Johnson was the state resident aggregate first in the standard rifle junior division. Robert Evans, Layton, placed second in the AAA division of the light rifle and second in the AA division of the standard rifle competitions. The match aggregate winner went to Charles Davis of Columbus, Ga., who drove to Davis County for the competition. Davis was also the AAA" winner in stan- dard rifle winner at the 1985 Utah State Rifle Metallic Silhouette Championships held at the Davis County rifle range Saturday and Sunday. Johnson was also first in the A" division of the light rifle competition. Walter Thompson, of Layton, e finish shot his way to a in the B" division of the standard rifle competition, and Larry Seamons, also of Layton, placed first-plac- light rifle. Games will be played at the Steed Park softball complex twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting Sept. 10 and running for five weeks. Team applications may be obtained at the new Recreation Office located at 40 South 125 East on Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration will be accepted July 29 through Aug. 15. Only 10 teams will be allowed to participate in each league, with Clearfield teams having first priority. Team registration fees will be $160 for Gearfield teams (having no more than five out of city residents on roster). Outside teams teer basis. For anyone interested in using the rifle range, the hours are 9 a.m. until noon and 5 p.m. until dusk Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Satur- die-har- days. The cost is $1.50 per firearm. All the money is put to use improving the range, the Shooters Asso. donates all its time. Season passes can also be bought for $12. They will be good until Jan. 1, 1986. Explorer Group Places Second group of South Weber Explorers posted fast times and good scores as they placed second overall in the National Explorer Olympics at Ft. Collins, Colo. The gold was in evidence among team members along with plenty of silver and bronze. Explorer Post No. 33 of South Weber was led to its second place finish by Ricky Smith, who received the Jesse Owens award for athletic ability, academics and participation in civic and church activities. The South Weber group had a total of 76 medals which included eight individual and five team gold; six silver; and five individual and 47 team bronze. This year there are plenty of events slated, from a triathalon to run to softball a games and a giant tennis tournament. All boys interested in playing recreation football should register at the Recreation Office on the south side of the new city building on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, and August 9 and 12 from p.m. to 5 p.m. After teams are formed, if space is not available, boys will yards off hand. The range will be open Tuesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. till noon, and Monday through Friday, 5 p.m.. till 7:30 p.m. Aug. 1985. 5-- 9, The cost is $ per entry for everyone. Approximately 200 swimmers from 15 teams from along the Wasatch Front competed for National B Times and colored ribbons in this Utah Swimming Association Competition.
