While I washed the first cup, he turned the towel every which way, examining its even white hems and testing the texture of the cloth. Then, quite abruptly, he looped it over a wooden spoon and waved it in long-handl- my face. Whats that supposed to be, a well-grease- d. peace flag? Yes," the man surrendered with a sheepish little grin. I think Ill fix Old Gurgly, real soon. Pageant I Deadline July 25 KAYSVILLE The Miss Davis County scholarship pageant deadline is fast approaching. Interested young women have until July 25 to submit their entry for the pageant, to be staged Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 8 p.m. as a major part of the Davis County Fair at Davis High School. Applications are available from the various city offices across the county or from Bernice Smith, pageant chairman, at 1502 N. Main in Farmington. The winner of Miss Davis County will represent the county at the Utah State Fair Contest in September. Contestants must be residents of Davis County at least six months prior to the contest. A first and second attendant will also be selected while a Miss Talent, Miss Congeniality and Miss Photogenic will also be named. Contestants must be a high school graduate or a senior this 4 fall, and between years of age before Sept. 1, 1985. Judging will be in four categories: private interview; evening gown; swim suit and a talent routine not to exceed two minutes, 50 seconds. Points will be determined 50 percent on talent and the other half based on evening gown, swimsuit and interview. Qualified judges will handle those duties, Mrs. Smith emphasizes. The contest winner will reign as Miss Davis County until the next county fair and will have the chance to represent the county at special functions during the year. E-- Shots Important REDWOOD Brad Neiger DECKING LUMBER Special to the Lakeside Review 25?, In recent years, the percentage of children immunized against preventable childhood diseases has been declining. Almost 40 percent of our children are in danger of contracting seven serious diseases: measles, polio, rubella (German measles), mumps, diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), and tetanus. There was recently a shortage of the DTP (diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis) vaccine and about the time of this shortage, questions arose about the safety of immunizations in general. What are the possible side effects of not only DTP, but polio, rubella, measles and mumps? Do children need these immunizations at all? Although most members of the American Academy of Pediatrics support vaccinations, the organization points out that some children react to: The DTP vaccine. It is associated with a range of reactions from minor discomfort to death. One dose of the vaccine in 310,000 is associated with encephalopathy, resulting in permanent brain damage, according to a British study. Polio vaccipe.
