Show 6A Lakeside Review North, Wednesday, June 13, 1984 Landlord Says Bills Not His RUTH MALAN Review Correspondent KAYSVILLE Apartment dwellers who fail to pay their utility bills in Kaysville are causing problems for both the landlord and the city. Apparently some previous tenants of Tana Acres have been moving and leaving behind delinquent utility bills. The unpaid bills are then charged to the owner of the apartments, Roger , Rawson. Tana Acres, an apartment tenants, complex for was constructed by Rawson 10 years ago. Rawson said he had a good working relationship with the city while building the allelectric units. When the apartments were first completed the power bill was in the landlord's name, but as electric rates increased, separate meters were installed for each unit and tenants began paying their own bills. According to Rawson, the city wants to hold the landlord responsible for the unpaid bills of the tenants. Im willing to accept my billing if you let me know if they (the tenants) are delinquent, Raw-so- n said, I'll share the security deposit of one months rent with the city in terms of delinquent bills. low-inco- Rawson requested a printout from the city telling him which tenants bills are delinquent so he can help in collecting the money. I dont want to pay their power bills, he said. Because of the right to privacy act, the landlord may not have that right. City Recorder Dean Steele said. We could have a lot of influence if we knew they were delinquent, Rawson said. Wed like to do this for you. A system in which the manager and tenant read the electric meter together and each sign a card showing the reading as the tenant moves in and out is used to get acorrect billing. the tenant could bring the card in to figure the final bill, Steele said.
