National Hospital Week is an annual observance sponsored by the National Hospital Association to focus attention on the work hospitals are performing and providing high quality care the year round in our communities. In 1921 leaders in the health field recognized the importance of telling the public about the human side of hospitals. For this purpose National Hospital Day was initiated. According to Mr. Ronald L. Nielsen, our Payson Hospital Administrator, May 12 was designated because it was the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, whose efforts led to the improvement of the hospital system both in England and America. In 1953 National Hospital Day was extended to a week-lon- g observance and since then we have had National Hospital Week. In 1970 the theme of YOUR HOSPITAL CARES and the secondary theme ofOUR FIRST CONCERN IS YOUR HEALTH will be used throughout the year. The key word to the theme is CARES. This word focuses 0RMP).
