Mrs. Brown has served as a Deputy The View From Here By Ruth co-c- Rothe County Have you noticed how busy everyone seems to be? Each week if yon are like I am you will probably say tovourself, Well, this week is so full of activities I dont know how Ill last it out, BUT Im sure NEXT week wont be nearly so bad. And then when next week finally unfolds all of the problems it has in store you look back and think you had an easier week than youre having now. A person could easily ask - What are we really rushing like this for'.'?? A friend recently outlined a trip she and her family completed m ten days. They traveled from our area clear across the continent and back and while m the East they discharged business matters and did some family visiting BUT they didnt allow just the few extra days needed g and touring which to do some might have made the trip a leisurely, pleasant excursion instead of a quick, deadline affair where each moment they stopped along the way was begrudged and in some cases repaid with more rapid speeds. On especially busy days did you ever hope not to see a friendly face as you stopped in town for a quick errand? I talked with a lady recently who was quite worried. She said that on such a day as that she had dashed downtown between appointments to get some hose at the store. She saw in the distance in the street and in the store three people whom she knew she should take the time to be at least friendly enough with to ask how they were, but as she explained to me, I knew that if they answered me in more than one word each I would miss my next appointment so I had to pretend I hadnt seen them." I agreed with her when she said that things shouldnt be this way, but V -- sight-seein- Maurice Bird files for re-electi- on County Treasurer, Maurice C. Superintendent, Ward Clerk, and Bishop of the Springville First Ward. He has served as Vice President, and President of the Utah State Association of County Officials and this year received the Mark Tuttle award, naming him the outstanding County Official in the State of Utah for the year 1969. He is married to the former Mary Williams of Spanish Fork and they are the parents of four children, Wallace, deceased, Mrs. L. Douglas Smoot (Marian), Mrs. Grant H. Palfreyman (Mary Jane), I. I know what she meant too. Its getting so bad that you need to get an appointment to see your own mother. And,--- if youre extra lucky she might not be too busy to see you! Some people wonder why folks dont visit anymore like we used to when I was a child. One good reason is that if we did, the ones we went to visit would wonder what we had in mind. Just passing the time chatting seems and Richard, attending the BYU. Although the County has grown considerably during his terms of office, lie has modernized the work in such a manner that he has not had to increase his JoAnn Brown Jo Ann Brown to seek recorder office Mrs. Jim (JoAnn) Brown, Lehi City Councilwoman, has announced her candidacy for Utah County Recorder on the Democratic ticket. Mrs. Brown is currently serving her first term as a member of the Lehi City Council, the first woman in the history of the community to so serve. Not only did Mrs. Brown win the post in the 1969 election, but received the highest vote in that election. As a member of the City Council she such a waste of time now. I heard one mother relate an experience she had recently. She is one of those rushed mothers we all know and her young daughter who is away to another state called her. The daughter had written once that week and at first the mother thought there must be something wrong. She kept waiting for the daughter to tell her of some emergency. When the girl just continued to chat the mother found herself wanting to ask, Well, honey, why did you call?" As the conversation continued it dawned on her that there was only one real reason, the daughter had needed to just chat and hear her Moms voice. As they said goodnight the mother was glad that she had such a good reason to go to her meeting late and also glad that her daughter hadnt been too busy to call. So, as you try to prod your loved ones to Get on the ball," Do it quicker," and Look at the time, Step lively, Recorder und r Thelma Vest Smurthwaite, ami is thoroughly familiar with all operations and duties of the office of County Recorder. Citizens throughout the county are encouraging Mrs. Brown in seeking this office, many of whom are indicating that Lehi needs representation m the County government, further indicating that it has been more than 20 years since Lehi has had an elected public official in a county office. I feel it is a great honor to represent the Democratic Party by being a candidate for this office. I would like to win on my own merit and abilities to serve the public well as County Recorder." all such phrases to make them rush to your standards ask yourself the question, What are we really rushing like this for? I was going to tell you about a neighbor of mine once who didnt have tune to eat so he took up drinking, but Ive got to RUSH so Ill tell you about him some other time. |
