Show West Mountain Views Mrt Ruby Meredith Phone home were Mr. and Mrs. Gene Young of Springville. 465-333- Ethel Hirst went with 31 other Senior Citizens on a Mildred Ream tour. They visited all the scenic spots through Colorado, Hew Mexico, El Paso, Texas and over the bridge into Juarez, Old Mexico. A wonderful trip was enjoyed by all. They saw the famous Indian festival at Santa Fe and numerous other famous spots, Mesa Verde, Carlsbad Caverns, and a ride on the Silverton train. Mr. and Mrs. Noble DeHart and family and Sandra Starr motored to Salt Lake Thursday evening where they met their son, Elder Scott DeHart, at the airport. Scott had just arrived from Samoa where he has fulfilled an LDS Mission. Meredith and family, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Meredith and family, Mrs. Joyce Jacklin and daughter, Sherrill of American Fork and Mr. and Mrs. Monte Sperry and family of Mona enjoyed a picnic on Monday at Payson Mr. Jeffery Curtis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Theone Curtis, celebrated his 9th birthday on Friday as a group of twelve boys met at his place for a party. The familie of Lyle Tanner, Harold Erekson, Hyrum Gold, Larry Brown of Provo and Wayne Allred of Orem enjoyed Labor Day at Payson Canyon. design was served with the refreshments. Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Sourt of Montebello, California visited from Tuesday until Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Miller. They were enroute home after spending the past week vacationing in Canada. Also visiting with the Millers were Mr. and Mrs. Don L. Nickelson and family of Farmington. Mr. and Mrs. William Biggs of Logan visited Saturday with their cousin, Vera Finch, and her husband, Robert Finch. Mr. and Mrs. Terry DeGraw, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lorin DeGraw are to be congratulated on their race horse winning first place at the Payson race track on Saturday and Monday. They received a Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Bushman and family were dinner guests at the home of their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Urry, on Sunday. They also attended Fast Day Services where they participated in the naming and blessing of their new granddaughter, daughter of Mr. and beautiful blanket and cash prizes. Thursday evening Brenda Rowley was hostess at a kitchen shower at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Rowley, in honor of De'ois Gold, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Hyrum Gold. were Sandra Star, Billie Erekson and Lynda Tanner. The evening was spent in creating a beautiful paper wedding dress and veil. Twenty-on- e friends and relatives enjoyed games and refreshments. Delois received , many beautiful gifts. Mrs. Urry. Mr. and Mrs. Reed Rmdlisbacher and Mr. and Mrs. Jay Rindlisbacher of Spanish Fork motored to Salt Lake Thursday morning where they met their brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Rindlisbacher of Elmonte, California at the Salt Lake Airport. The group then traveled to Logan where they attended funeral services for their 96 year old grandmother, Mrs. Anna Barfuss Rindlisbacher Dutson. Mr. and Mrs. Rindlisbacher boarded the plane the same night for their return home. Mr, and Mrs. Carl Butler and family hosted a taco dinner on Saturday at the patio of Mr. Butlers mother and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Graham of Spring Lake. Mr. and Mrs. John Peters (Pearl Henline) and family of Bjena Park, Calif, were honored guests. Mr. and Mrs. Ricky Madson of Glendale, Maryland visited Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Larry Pierce. Ricky is the son of Mr, and Mrs. Max Madson of Heber. A lovely birthday dinner was served in Rickys honor. Christen, of Orem returned recently from a vacation to Lake PowelL They spent four days touring the lake by boat and report they found many beautiful and interesting spots. They also visited at Bull Frog. Mr. and Mrs. Abner Baird were hosts at a dinner on Thursday honoring Mrs. Robert A. Baird Jr. and her son, Zane, who arrived by plane from Waterton Lake National Park, Canada where shehasbeen employed this summer. Mrs. Baird enjoyed a short layover in Utah as she traveled to Fort Benning, Georgia to meet her husband, Robert A. Baird Jr. who is stationed there. Others present were Mrs. Rebecca Twede and Mrs. Robert Baird, Sr. and her daughter, Ann, of Orem. ' Mr. and Mrs. Ted Curtis and family spent three days vacationing in Idaho and Wyoming. They visited Mr. and Mrs. Ramon Curtis and family at Rigby, Idaho and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Summers at Idaho Falls, Idaho. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Pierce and family attended the James Young family reunion at Mt. Spaa at Heber on Aug. 23. Fifty descendants were present. Surprise visitors at the Reed Ekins home this past week were the D.W. Herbs of Wantagh, Long Island, New York. Mrs. visited for a few Herb has previously weeks earlier in the summer but recently flew West to join her husband who was presiding at a convocation in Fort Collins, Colorado. They admitted to being unable to resist the trip over the mountains to visit close relatives in Springville and the Ekins in Payson. Mrs. Herb and Mrs. Ekins are sisters. Labor Day visitors at the Ekins home were Mr. and Mrs. N. Lowell Peterson, accompanied by Mr. Jim Peterson, all of Hinckley, Utah. The Lowell Petersons are parents of Nels Peterson who is currently riding at Centenniel Race Track in Denver. Mrs. Barbara Gleave, Mrs. Diane Gar-be- tt of California, Mrs. Loa Jean Geltz of Michigan, Mrs. Robin Clawson of Salt Lake and Mrs. Carma Herbert of Payson enjoyed a picnic together on Thursday at the Payson Park. The four ladies were former schoolmates and had not been together for many years. SFC Gardello Nay returned Aug. 28 from a years active duty in Vietnam. He e, and his wife, Shirley, and daughter, and son, Russell, of Manti visited one week with his mother, Mrs. Iva Nay. He will be living at Manti until he receives his new assignment. Kath-alen- Mrs. Mildred Wiker and Mrs. Elina Kiltack and son, Jeff, of Salt Lake were guests Thursday at the Mack Wignall home. Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Gleave and daughter, Julie Ann Gleave, took advantage of Labor Day weekend and traveled to Antimony where they visited his mother, Mrs. Maud Gleave and his brothers and sister. They left Saturday night for their home after attending early events of the celebration. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Jasperson and son, Jeff, spent an enjoyable vacation in a trip to Gallup, New Mexico, where they saw the annual Indian Ceremonials. Later they went on to Reams Canyon, where they visited the Woodie family, parents and brothers and sisters of Miss Rachel Woodie, who is making her home with the Jaspersons while attending high school in Payson. Kayo Wilson, an engineer who is working on the space program at Cape Kennedy, is spending a months vacation in Payson with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Wilson, and other relatives. Spencer, and Leona Howard of Salt Lake City; also Mr. and Mrs. Garth Belliston and daughter, Reta, of Ogden were visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Page during the week of the celebration. Visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Jasperson on various days through the Homecoming Celebration were her mother, Mrs. Nettie Mulliner, Murray; and their daughter, Miss Shirley Jasperson of Bountiful; also Mr.'Jaspersons sisters and husbands as follows: Sadie and Carl Schwab and daughter, Pearl, Salt Lake City; Alice and Harold Fox, Eureka; Norma and Maurice Alvie, Payson, and Mrs. Lavon Turner of Payson. Mr. and Mrs. Huish Moore have received word of the birth of a new grandchild, a girl born August 22 at Phoenix, Ariz., to Sam and Marta Rogers Moore. The new father is with the Air Force, stationed at Keesler AFB at Biloxi, Mississippi, where the tornado of last month struck. He was uninjured but said the damage would have to be seen to be believed. His wife will join him late this month, bringing with her their little daughter, Julie Christine. Visitors at the home of Mrs. Della McClellan have been her daughter, Mrs. Dale Shepherd (Carol Ann) and children of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and also her son, Charles (Mac) McClellan and six children of San Jose, Calif. Mr. McClellan is a teacher at Westmont High School in San Jose. Mrs. Jennie Flanders enjoyed a vacation trip last month with her son, R.L.G. Flanders, and his wife and three children, all of Tooele, when they drove to Wichita, Kansas, to visit Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Flanders and family and Mrs. Blanche Turner and family. While there the group gathered at Toronot Park for a family reunion, vyth 19 attending. They returned to Utah by way of Oklahoma and Texas and stopped at Mesa Verda Park in Colorado. Over the weekend Mrs. Jennie Flanders entertained her son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. R.L, Flanders, and children of Tooele, and also their daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Proctor and two children of Grantsville, in addition to a grandson, Lee Sudweeks, and his wife and baby daughter of Spanish Fork. Mr. and Mrs. Don L. Worthington and daughter, Carolyn, and son, Brett, have returned to their home in San Diego after a two week visit in Utah with their families. During their visit, Kent Worthington and family from Bountiful and Boyd Worthington and family, Provo, joined them at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gean Worthington, for various occasions. Visitors at the G. Grant Gardner home have been Mr. and Mrs. Roland Baldwin and daughter, Jillinda, of Milwaukee. Wis.. where Mr. Baldwin is employed as anFBI- agent. They were accompanied to Utah by Miss Geneil Gardner who has been employed in Milwaukee this summer. The Baldwins also visited his parents in Rawlins, Wyo. Overnight guests at the Gardner home were a brother and wife, Dr. and Mrs. O.M, Knudsen and daughter, Dorothy, of Terre Haute, Indiana, where Dr. Knudsen is a teacher at the Rose Poly Tech school. The school is open to college men inter- ested in math and the sciences. Before returning to their home they will visit other members of the family in Utah and California. Zoe Ann Gardner has returned to her ARCH THEATRE Box Office Open 8 - Show 8:15 p.m. with One Showing Thursday, Friday and Saturday; IT STROLLS... IT each Night SEPTEMBER George M sets tryouts Mon. The Utah Valley Opera Association wishes to announce the forthcoming production of George M. The musical is the story of the life and times of George M. Cohan. All the musical numbers were written by him. Such songs as Mary is a Grand Old Name, Yankee Doddle Dandy, Its a Grand Old Flag and many Cohan hits will be sung. Individuals who wish to try out for parts please meet in the Little Theatre of the Spanish Fork High School at 7:00 p.m. on the evening of Monday, September 15. Many of the major leads must be proficient in tap dancing, singing and acting, but there are some straight acting and singing parts. Tryouts for all three categories will be held that evening. The show is scheduled to be presented at the Spanish Fork High School on the evenings of November 12, 13, 14, and 15. Mormon heritage Mormon Heritage, was presented by the at the Orem LDS Ward Cultural Hall. The 3 Ds are a 3 Ds Friday 2nd-26- th local Orem singing popular, well-knogroup composed of : Duane Hiatt and Dick Davis, both formerly of Payson and Dennis Sorenson, formerly of Spanish Fork. This program, a new type of presentation for the 3 Ds in this area, features songs with dramatic and comedy sketches from Mormon history. Presented in 16 Education Week locations for the Brigham Young Univerity this summer, this program has also been recorded for a deluxe . album to be released in late September. The 3 Ds who have played to' just about every kind of adnlence with their regular pop music concert, "claim they have never received any better reception than they have with the Mormon Hertiage presentation. By using techniques they have learned over the past seven years as professional entertainers, they have added real life to this Mormon story, placing emphasis on the feelings and emotions of the early pioneer, rather than just dates, names and places. The 3 Ds having established themselves in the entertainment world by. performing on college campuses during the school year, have since played in the Thunderbird and Sahara Hotels in Las Vegas, and for the servicemen in Vietnam, They also have five albums to their credit and this summer appeared on , the Joey Bishop Show. teaching post at, the Sunset School in Provo after being employed at Lake Tahoe all summer. Mrs. Sam (Beth West) Simpson of Las Vegas, Nev., is visiting in Payson with her mother, Mrs. Elsie West, and also in Lehi with her daughter, Connie Nelson, and family. Visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Mayer have been their daughters, Helen Apgood, of Cupertino, Calif., and Leona Smithhurst of Lander, Wyo. Leonas husband, Elmer Smitherhurst, accompanied her and they enjoyed events of the celebration with the Mayer family. Helens daughter, Janet, 11, and also her son, Gary, were with her. Janet visited in Pay-swith her grandparents for some three weeks before her mother arrived, and the two stayed an additional three weeks.
