All the dust and shouting from the race track isnt the workout boys giving the ponies a run, it is Jim Durrant and the 1969 edition of the varsity getting in shape. With a full turnout of 60 men for the varsity, Jim and his capable staff, Larry Kimball and Dick Harmer, are getting ready for the season opener with Uintah in Vernal on the night of August 29th. Thats right, next Friday at 8:00 p.m., opens the season. With enough speed in the back field to set track records the problem seems to be getting the big line on the move and knowing Jim Durrant as we all do, this should come about with the loss of a little lard from those concerned. Presently the varsity is on a two practice a day schedule and will continue until the opening of school. A workout for the parents and townspeople interested will be held Wednesday, August 27, at 7:30 on the racetrack field. This will give everyone a chance to see their representatives in the region for 1969. And a great entry it is going to be. For those who might have forgotten, Payson is now officially a Class A school in both football and basketball Orem, Provo, Spanish Fork, Springville, Carbon and American Fork are all Class AA schools.
