Show ) 4 THE PAYSON CHRONICLE Shower given Thursday, August 21, 1969 Miss Laurie Bringhurst was honored Friday morning at a kitchen shower given by her grandmother, Mrs. Selby Dixon, Payson, and her aunt, Mrs. John Perkins, of Salt Lake City. The event was arranged at the Dixon home in Payson, with a circle of family members invited to attend. Many useful gifts were received by the bride-to-b- e. Aug. 14: Boy to Melvin Torronto Gardner reunion The Samuel Thomas Gardner family reunion was held Saturday, with some 93 members attending. The torrential rainstorm caused the reunion to be moved from the Spanish Fork City Park to the Spanish Fork Stake Center, through arrangements made by Carlos Gardner of Spanish Fork. A lovely luncheon was served cafeteria style. The group voted to hold the reunion annually on the third Saturday of August. This year members attended from all points in Utah and also San Francisco and San Lorenzo, Calif., as well as Pittsburg, Pa. The boy is to be named Karlin Ray Smith. His maternal is Kenneth R. Dixon of Payson. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Richard T. Chown of F allbrook, Calif. L Roy Barnett Honored on Golden Wedding Mr. and Mrs. L Roy Barnett celebrated wedding anniversary recently when they were honored at a dinner given at Oak Crest Inn. Mr. Barnett and his wife, former Jennie Strong, were married Aug. 7, 1919, at Provo. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They have spent their entire married life in Payson. Both are natives of this city and both attended Payson schools. They are active members of the LDS church. Mr. Barnett has served as a member of both Second and Park Ward bishoprics as well as in other capacities in both wards. Mrs. Barnett has worked in the Primary and in the Relief Society. Mr, Barnett was an agent for an insurance company for several years prior to his retirement. Attending the anniversary party with them were their son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Barnett of Kearns; their daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Hanson, Payson; and grandchildren as follows: Bruce Barnett, Pamela Barnett, Douglass Barnett and Delohn Barnett, all of Kearns; also Stephen Hanson, Charles Hanson and Jeffrie Hanson, Payson. A decorated anniversary cake and several lovely gifts were presented to the couple by their family. their golden Hospital party The Happy Hospital party proved to be hilarious when the staff of the Payson City Hospital held its annual dinner on the patio of the Nebo Stake Center. A dinner featuring ham with all the fruit and vegetables of the harvest season were served. Georgeous Gussy Geslison, otherwise known as Melva Geslison, R. N. was Mistress of Ceremonies. She not only looked glamorous but she presided over the evenings entertainment with her fun filled personality. Each department was introduced and they responded with a humorous act. Gold announce the engagement of their daughter, Delois, to is the Jerry Stinson. The benedict-eleson of Mr. and Mrs. Alden W. Stinson of Aztec, New Mexico. Miss Gold graduated from the Payson High School and is attending the Brigham Young University where she is majoring in Home Economics Education. Mr. Stin- son is also attending the BYU where he is majoring in mathematics. The couple is planning to be married September 11 in the Manti Temple. A reception will follow that evening in the Pay-so- n West Ward. The following Saturday the newlyweds will be entertained at an open house at the home of the bridegroom-elect- s parents in Aztec, ct The opening social for the Payson High School Seminary will be held Friday, August 22 at the Payson City Park. There will be games and free swimming with light refreshments served. All high school students will be invited. Moore family reunion was held Saturday evening at the old family home in Payson where Mr. and Mrs. Cleon Moore now reside. Sam Moore was a pioneer school teacher in Payson. He and his wife, Clara Ann Huish, reared a large family in the home where the reunion was held. Some 70 members of the family were present and enjoyed visiting and dinner served at six long tables on the patio. S.D. Moore, Jr., Salt Lake City, president for the current year, was in charge of arrangements. John Moore, also ofSalt Lake City, was elected president for 1970. These can be served right from the container, but we like to use these space-ag- e refrigerator desserts as jumping off points for our own creations. Used as a base, they make things speedier and the mixing and guessing about custard obsolete. Whats left is plenty of time to let your imagination run rampant in the kitchen. PUMPKIN RUM SOUFFLE 1 (16 oz.) carton butterscotch flavored ready-to-e- at refrigerator pudding cup canned pumpkin 1 8 oz, can crushed pineapple 2 to 4 tablespoons rum 14 teaspoon nutmeg 1 envelope unflavored gelatin 6 egg whites 1 (2 12 oz.) packaged whipped topping mix and 12 cup milk Let 1 carton butterscotch pudding warm to room temperature. Combine with canned pumpkin and pineapple, drained (reserve juice), rum and nutmeg. Measure 14 cup from reserved pineapple juice. Blend with gelatin. Set over hot water to dissolve. Stir quickly, but thoroughly into the pudding mixture. Beat the egg whites until stiff, but not dry. Fold into prepared pudding. Lightlygrease 1 quart souffle dish. Fold a strip aluminum foil into thirds lengthwise. Lightly grease one side. Place around souffle dish, greased side inside, so that the foil extends as a collar three inches above the top rim of dish; the collar tightly gripped to the dish. Spoon pudding into souffle dish, smoothing top. Chill thoroughly until set at least two hours. Just before serving, gently remove foil collar. Beat together topping mix and milk until stiff. Swirl on top of chiUed souffle. Sprinkle with additional nutmeg. Serves six. 1 CUSTARD CHEESECAKE On the hottest August Day, Omit baking the crumb crust. Make as directed and place in the refrigerator for thirty minutes, to set the crust. 1 14 cup crushed graham cracker crumbs 14 cup sugar 14 cup soft butter or margarine 1 (17 12 oz.) carton frozen vanilla pudding 1 (8 oz.) carton creamy, cottage cheese small curd 1 envelope gelatin, any flavor 2 tablespoon lemon juice 2 tablespoons water Combine cracker crumbs, sugar and butter or margarine. Mix and press into bottom and 2 inches up the sides of a lightly greased 8 inch spring form pan. Bake six to eight minutes at 375 deg. Mrs. Melba Wyler, Mrs. Glenda Cloward, Mrs. Dawn Perry and Mrs. Annie Horn arranged the gifts. After a honeymoon in Southern California, the couple will reside in Payson. ne SENIOR CITIZENS Senior Citizens are urged and invited to attend the weekly meeting of the unit on Friday, Aug. 22, 2 p.m., at the tabernacle, when Arthur Davis, local mink raiser, will give a talk on raising of mink. Mr. Davis wiU tell of the care of the animals also describe the making of wearing apparel from the skins. A colored film showing some part of the United States will be presented and refreshments will be served. The schedule for the following week, Friday, Aug. 29, features a free dance following the fireworks display at the race track. On Aug. 30 and Sept. 1st there will be a rock and mineral show at the tabernacle all free. Everyone is invited to come out and see the beautiful and ornamental trinkets made from rocks. aside. Set over hot water until gelatin is dissolved. Stir quickly, but thoroughly, into the pudding and cheese mixture. Turn into baked crumb crust in spring form pan. Chill two hours. Serves six. RASPBERRY TRIFLE PARFAIT The success of this parfait lies in the blend of raspberry, cherry liqueur sauce. Its worth opening a can of sweet cherries for the 14 cup liquid, should no liqueur be available. 12 lady fingers 1 package frozen raspberries, thawed . (10 oz) 14 cup cherry flavored liqueur tablespoon lemon juice 1 (8oz) package raspberry flavored swiss style yogurt 3 macarooms crumbled Crumb one lady finger into the bottom of each of six 4 oz, parfait glasses (sher-bet- X Set the reamining six aside. Puree raspberries, thawed, in blender, then put the raspberry puree through sieve to remove seeds. Stir liqueur or juice and lemon juice into strained raspberry puree. Top each crumbled lady finger with about 1 12 tablespoons each raspberry wine mixture and raspberry yogurt. Crumble the six remaining lady fingers over the yogurt and repeat the layers with the remaining raspberry wine mixture and raspberry yogurt. Top each dessert with a little of the three crumbled macaroons. Chill. After the ceremony the couple was honored at a wedding breakfast at the Della Fontana given by the bridegrooms parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Clark Elmer, formerly of Payson, 3055 East 4345 South Salt Lake City. The couple were honored that evening at a reception hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm J. Fish at the Lion House. The groom fulfilled a Central British LDS Mission.
