Rampton regarding the political atmosphere of the State of Utah. Dis-tri- ct Job F. Measom Seeks Election as Representative Job F. Measom, a History, Political Science and an Economics major from the Brigham Young University, is seeking election as a candidate for State Representative for District 44. Mr. Measom is a History and Political Science teacher at the Payson High School.- - He, who has achieved professional status in his career, makes the incidents from United States history live again as he recounts the story of our country. His students listen enthralled as he captures those precious moments, for. them, instilling into each an appreciation of America and what it means to be a citizen of this wonderful land. As one of the outstanding tea- chers of the state of Utah, Mr. Measom, in an interview with the press, quoted the words of W.J. Bryan as his reason for entering the political field: 'The strength of a nation does not lie in forts, nor in navies, nor yet in great standing armies, but in happy contented citizens, who are ever ready to protect for themselves and to preserve for posterity the blessing which they enjoy. It is for us of this generation to so perform the duties of citizenship that a government of the people, by the people and for the people shall not perish from the earth. POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY When asked how he felt about deficit spending within our state, Mr. Measom said that he was against deficit spending; sound government and fiscal responsibility are inseparable. However, the states bonding program, as initiated by the 1965 Legislature, was both timely and essential and was within the realm of sound fiscal policy. The critical needs had to be met. CRIME IN THE STREETS In regard to the problem of crime in the streets and law enforcement Mr. Measom stated, I believe law and order .is the very essence of civilized .society and must be maintained at all cost. I also recognize the right of a minority group to peacefully assemble for petition .and to say their grievances at the seat of government. The means of solving any problem is just as important as the end. UTAH EDUCATION EXPENDITURE Discussing the problem of .whether Utah educational ex- penditures per pupil should Rampton had done well in promoting industrial growth within Utah. FARM SITUATION Mr. Measom declared that the farmer at present is caught in a cost-prisqueeze tending to discourage our established farmers as well as young people from following this honorable vocation. I He said, support Proposition Number 4 as one means of relief from the present dilema.' ce whole-hearted- CONSTITUTIONAL MENTS support Proposition 1 and 2 as a means of upgrading the legislative process within the state of Utah, he said.
