Elder John Longden of the Council of the Twelve will represent the general authorities and will preside. President Reed J. Money will conduct the general session on Sunday at 10 A.M. The general public is invited to attend. A priesthood leadership meeting will be held Saturday at 7 P.M. for leadership of stake and ward priesthood quorums and auxiliary organizations. Other meetings will be called for various groups with the stake presidency and Elder Longden. Teacher Profile Mr. Barney was graduated General Priesthood Meeting To be Televised Saturday The general priesthood meeting of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints will be broadcast by direct wire to the Nebo Stake Center Saturday at 7 P.M. This is in conjunction with general conference being held in Salt Lake City Friday, Saturday and Sunday. All members of thePriesthood are invited to attend. They are urged to be in their seats before 7 P.M. The priesthood session was televised live during the Church April conference. This will not be done Saturday, however. Men and boys desiring to hear the session must be in attendance at the Salt Lake Tabernacle or at a location where it is being broadcast by wire. Nolan Barney Barney comes to the Payson High School with excellent preparation for the educational field he has chosen. He is the Art and Journalism teacher at the high school. Nolan with honors from the College of Southern Utah with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints and has served in the mission field of Northern California. He is a Teachers Advisor in his ward. Mr. Nolan has also been a member of the National Guard for six years. He served in Fort Ord, California and Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He is married to the former Kaye Tucker of S p r i n g v i 1 1 e. They are the parents of a son, Ryan, age 18 months. The new art and journalism teacher was born in Elsinore, Utah a son of Mr. and Mrs. V.L. Barney. He was reared in Cedar City. Mr. Barneys hobby is oil j(gu Freeway Parson now has two large, attractive signs on their freeway approaches to add to the advertising program. The 10 x 30 foot billboards are located on the North City limits and next to the golf course. Ther were purchased from ORCHARD HILLS OF UTAH painting. His ambition is to create an outstanding art program at the Payson High School. He has formerly taught in Delta, Utah. Art Show to Be Presented at School To Raise Funds For Hospital T. Dorothy Binks One of the important personnel to the functioning of Payson is Mrs. Cornell Hospital Richard (Dorothy Daniels) Binks. Mrs. Binks is the Insurance Clerk in the Accounting Department. She does the machine posting. Mrs. Binks has a pleasing personality and one is the better person for having known her. She is the daughter of James A. and Arlene Bates Daniels and was reared in Payson. She was graduated from the Payson High School and is also a graduate of the Utah State Technical College where she studied Medical Terminology. She married Cornell R. Binks and they are the parents of five children: Susan who is a senior at Payson High School; Craig, eighth grade at the Payson Jr. High School; Carolyn, fourth grade at the Wilson School; Brent, first grade at the Wilson School; and Arlene who is in the kindergarten class. Mrs. Binks has served as a member ofthe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She is currently Second Counselor in the Second Ward Relief Society; she has taught Sunday School, Primary, has been a Golden Gleaner and Stake Gleaner Girl President. Dorothy has also worked in the Cub Scouts and is now serving in the Parent Teachers Association as a room mother. A television set can be purchased for the Payson Hospital for $110.00 each for the next six weeks. The television will be deluxe hospital sets with remote controls and private ear phones. The fund will pay the balance on the sets amounting to an additional $90. The cost is important in the television project and the need is urgent for immediate action through the in participation building and equipment, since the funds will be terminated in the near future. Hill-Burt- The local Citizens of TACT (Truth About Civil Turmoil) are sponsoring Julia Brown, a negro lady from Cleveland, Ohio, who will be speaking on on By America Blac- Threats of Vio- lence." Mrs. Brown joined the Communist Party in the mistaken belief that it was a Civil Rights organization. Mrs. Brown quit the party after nine months when she realized the Communist Party is a conspiracy trying to destroy my country. Those spearheading the program are Mrs. Maurine Hiatt, Business Department; Mrs. Joyce Provstgaard, Pink Ladies; Mrs. Mable Montague and Mrs. Mary Jane Reynolds both of whom are from the Nursing Staff. The first prize offered will be a colored television set. Visiting with patients and ministering to their wants are vital needs of a hospital. Our congratulations for a job well done. Ernest A. Rothe Our Farmer Friend for this week is Ernest A. Rothe who farms 275 acres of diversified crops in the West Payson area. He also feeds out about 40 head of beef each year. Mr. Rothe was born in Lehi, Utah to Max and Annie Rothe. He was reared there and was graduated from the Lehi High School. He is married to the former Ruth Gaisford and they are the parents of six children: Rav Jerry are married and make their homes in Payson; Richard recently returned from serving with the armed forces in Germany; Anna graduated from Snow College last spring; Marilyn is a senior at the Payson High School; Paul is 14 find Cynthia is an Indian girl who is a high school senior and makes her home with the Rothes. Ernest Rothe has served his church well having been a member of a bishopric in Lehi and he was also in a bishopric in the West Ward. He has been a member of the Nebo Stake High Council, President of the Nebo Stake High Priests, a Ward Superintendent of SundaySchool and a counselor in the Stake Sunday School. He is now serving as age group counselor in the Ward MIA and as Ward Chorister. Mr. Rothe has served as a in the Central Utah Beet Growers Association, as a board member on the High Line Strawberry Water Users Association, President of the Spring Creek Water Board and Past President of the local Farm Bureau to which organization he still belongs. Again we salute another farmer who contributes his bit to make our country great. director 0m National Scout Jamboree At long last we have something of a concrete nature regarding the 7th National Jam; boree which is to be held at Farragut, Idaho. Dates are: July 16 thru 22, 1969. Age requirements: Boy Scouts must have attained age 12 on or before September 21, 1968. Explorers who have not been Scouts must be registered on or before July 1, 1968. Rank Requirements: Boy Scouts and Explorers (former Scouts) must have achieved the Star Rank on or before April 1, 1969. Explorers who have not been Scouts must meet requirements of camping experience, leadership, Scout spirit, etc. Other Requirements: Be physically qualified, exemplify the Scout oath and law, be proficient in camp craft, demonstrate leadership ability, and Scout spirit. All candidates must be interviewed by a local District boree Selection Committee before they can be accepted. Travel plans: Provo to Salt Lake by bus. Air transportation, Salt Lake to Seattle with three nights and days of sightseeing in the Seattle area; including trip to Victoria, British Columbia. From Seattle toSpokane by air. Spokane to the Jamboree by bus. Spokane to Salt Lake City by air. Salt Lake City to Provo by bus. Fee:- - Has been set at $297 which will include: transportation and lodging, Jamboree fee, Regional fee, equipment and tentage, meals, leadership, training, contingency, insurance, and sightseeing. There will be 288 Scouts in the contingent and 24 leaders. Your District has been given 15 participants. This number is set by the National Council, and is based on the number of registered Scout and Explorer units in the Council at the end of December, 1967. A District Selection Committee has been set up to interview applicants wishing to attend the 7th National Jamboree which is to be held at Farragut. Applicants will be required to be interviewed on November 6, 1968 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Jr. High Seminary Building. Hazelwood, Administrator Navy Recruiting, Salt Lake City, Ensign Lorna Dee Sims, Ensign Sandra Jean Butler and Ensign Kayleen Drissell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Drissell of Payson. Ensign Drissell graduated from the School of Nursing, University of Utah in June. She received a direct appointment commission. She is presently undergoing a four week course of indoctrination in Newport, Rhode Island. Upon completion of this training, she will go to the U.S. Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. I |
