According to Chris S. Metos information Director, Utah State Department of Highways, 411, 000 of the colorful maps were printed this year in anticipation of a record tourist season in Utah. The maps were printed by the Rand McNally Company, Chicago, Illinois for $24,000 or slightly less than 6c a piece. The map is very popular with tourists all over the world, stated Mr. Metos. Distribution is made through the Tourist and Publicity Council, National and State Parks, Highway Patrol check stations and personal requests from individuals. Every area of the state has a representative picture typical of the scenery in that area, stated Mr. Metos. There are 18 pictures included in the multi colored map. These pictures include the State Capitol Building, 'LDS Temple Square in Salt Lake City, excavating dinosaur bones in eastern Utah, boating on Bear River, a forest scene in the Mirror Lake area, the Great White Throne in Zions National Park, boating on Lake Powell, hiking along trails in Bryce Canyon National Park, a view of the Coral Sand Dunes near Kanab, a picture of the Hite Ferry (Utahs Navy) crossing Lake Powell, and other typical scenes. The cover picture on the map has a striking portrait of Utahs famed Rainbow Bridge. Illustrating the states growing mileage on the Interstate Highway System, the map contains a striking aerial photograph of the completed section of the Interstate 15 from the Provo Center Street looking north toward Lehi. This photograph was taken by Chauncey G. Information Officer, Powis, Utah State Department of Highway. To stimulate interest in the states spectacular scenery, special emphasis was' given to the Golden Circle of National Parks in southern Utah.
