You Salina Sanpete resident compiles sourdough cookbook A local county resident has written a colorful little book entitled “The Secrets of Sourdough” wherein he describes the physical properties that makes sourdough a perpetual food source if handled properly Sourdough has long been with mankind because it not only tastes good in its many applications but it also has the ability to reproduce itself in a very short period of time making it an ideal supplement to meal planners in the home kitchen and outdoor applications alike The author Ned Ericksen of Moroni has been tending his sourdough for many years and recently was inspired to write the book because a lot of people were asking questions and seeking “starts” Many of these people subsequently had limited success and wondered why their sourdough apparently died Ericksen has researched the subject thoroughly has developed and tested many recipes which are included in the book and even offers a free “start" of sourdough with the purchase of the book He has filled the volume also with colorful stories anecdotes and what he calls “philosophical insights” To quote from the preface of the book he states"Sourdough thusly becomes a metaphor for living We get back what we put in and the more we put in the more we get back” This book is a must for any and all individuals who enjoy cooking who would like to try their hand at baking or as a gift from someone who wants their gift to keep on giving to that special person for many years to come “Uncle Ned” as he is affectionately called by family friends and associates alike has his roots in Sanpete County where he herded sheep as a boy in the summers up until after he had married and graduated from BYU The book sells for only $ 95 and is available by only Please send orders to or a stamped envelope for more information to: "Uncle Ned" PO Box 568 Moroni Utah 84646 Near drowning reminds boaters to take precautions with children by JoLyn Camp A Lake Powell trip nearly turned into a tragedy for area residents earlier in September this year Derek and Dana Andreason along with their daughter Jodi Sorenson her husband Brett and theirtwo children went down for the week to relax As they were getting ready to come back home Derek and Jodi took the houseboat back to the dock while Dana Brett and the two children were left to trailer the ski boat One of the children was the Sorenson infant son who was then asleep in his carrier They moved him into the truck to keep him cool with the air conditioner while they loaded the boat His father Brett backed the Dodge extended cab and boat trailer down into the water and got out to load the boat He had put on the emergency brake and gone to the back of the truck to reel in the boat when he and Dana realized the brake had failed and the truck was rolling further back into the lake By the time Brett hustled back to get into the truck the water had risen to the bottom of the door The engine had stalled and he could not get the truck started to pull it out The water was rising rapidly as the truck continued to roll back into the lake At first Brett's thoughts were absorbed in trying to save the truck but it was soon apparent that it was rolling too fast The water level was quickly to the point that it reached the baby’s chin who was still sitting in the front seat Dana told Brett to get the baby out The door was blocked shut with the pressure of the water and Brett could not open it He quickly kicked out the window because it also could not be lowered since it was run by electronics He handed the child out to Dana his grandmother and then swam out himself Jodi and Derek had heard on the radio about a truck rolling into the lake as they were docking the houseboat but had no idea it was their ow n fam ily involved The boat trailer finally jack knifed which stopped it from rolling By that time the cab was submerged nearly a foot under water The truck was totaled but the near tragedy had been narrowly avoided “It seems as though time stood still briefly while Brett got the baby out” says Dana Needless to say the Andreason and Sorenson are very thankful that the truck was the only thing lost The insurance has replaced it but the stark reality of what might have been still haunts them since you left we can hope and pray for is that we be together again All will all know that there are boy angels because God took you and you were an angel here on earth so you must be in heaven We love andmiss you more than words 529-736- can express! 4 INTRODUCTORV The family of Earl Willardson would
