W ho is in charge of studying the recreational cilities needs of the county now that the Recreation Board has been done aw ay w ith? W’ho dec ides w hat improvements are needed and how much should be spent on them? How arc these decisions being made or are they ? W here is the I’ P money that was released last year and tins year for recreation? Arc studies being written up to determine how much to spend in each type of recreation for the number of people involved in each? Or are wc going to spend S6(K)(KK) for 30 people in one sjxtrl and $60000 for 150 people in another sport? Why does the county subsidize the Bowling Alley when they could have sold it a professional manager that tried to buy it that believes it can be self supporting? Arc the ball parks getting the maintenance they deserve? Are there enough ball parks in the county and if not arc they planned? If planned is there a schedule for starting and completion? Do wc have enough soccer fields for the 300 children that are active in the sport now? Or are they using ball Helds designed for other purposes? If so does this cause other conflicts? Why is the golf course in worse shape than it w as last year and not being improved? When are the necessary going to be started? improvements When is the tree watering system that was started last year going to be comneeded If the improvements are pleted? going to be started when will they get finished? Why is the majority of the work being done on the day of the most play Tuesday instead of getting it all done Monday so that all to be done is mow the greens early Tuesday Is the boat dock and beach at Gunnison Bend being maintained to user Is it over used? Are the beach facilities adequate? Why are the professional people educated and experienced in the recreation they arc or were managing not a better choice for managing their recreation facilities maintenance than a person w uh no experience or education for maintenance or managing any kind of maintenance? Why does it take more county employees to do less maintenance this year than it did last year on the recreation facilities? Why are we doing less maintenance or does it just appear that way? How many employees dix:s the county need to gel the recreation department maintenance done? How many more do we need to get improvements done? How can any personnel manager do a gixd job of managing people if they do not have the authority to fire a person that is not doing the job expected of him especially after being told firmly to do so And is firing a person responsible for maintaining park grass and plants tixi much if the grass and trees continually die off? Wh at about a person recording more time working somewhere than was actually worked? What if they just do not get their assigned work done? What are the qualifications of Jerry Reagan for the job he is trying to do for the county? And what is his job? docs he have the hire and Fire responsibilities? How often arc wc going to and change the name of the county organization that the county employees payroll comes from? Are the County Commissioners using "IX)RK BARREL"managcmcntasI or is it have heard said by a new "TIGHT SHIP" just getting under way? party Barcelona: City of Dreams the name may be withheld I always I want to write about Barcelona want to talk about Barcelona Thi is my chance I've got an excuse Barcelona is in live news When I was just a kid in high school art classes our teacher showed us slides of Antonio Gaudi's architecture in Barcelona small high Spain In that dark room in that school I had a mind expanding experience It was one of those realizations we undergo when we sec something so strange we’re like seeing a badger in the woodpile Gaudi s knocked out of our usual complacency else on earth His giant stone buildings look style of architecture is unlike anything millimeter is touched by like soft wax structures melting in the summer sun Every Decadent his vision He was a precursor to Art Dcco to Art Nouveau to I those structures in person I knew looking at those slides long ago that had to see weren't enough to satisfy my I had to touch them I had to get enough of them Slides made a vow while sitting in Granger High School art class hunger for these images for myself that one day I would go to Barcelona to see those buildings friend and I stood on In 1979 after a long bus ride from Antwerp Belgium my wasn't opened yet so we stood the beach in Eslartit Spain at 6:00 a m Our hotel is on the Costa Brava in Estartit in fog the morning early suitcases frigid around our an area of feisty gipsies and fierce nationalists Spain near the French border was in the air) Catalonia I was to slay for two magical romantic weeks (it the city of my dreams The object of my afJust 45 minutes away lay Barcelona I was nearly there fection And in its heart were the buildings of Gaudi villas white-ashed peppered up the surEstartit is a small Hshing village with 1:00 and lasts until Siesta (around 2:00 pm) rounding hillsides Lunch begins at Dinner begins at 9 00 and lasts until midnight All other hours were spent sunning on the Mediterranean Sea shores visiting touring the coral caves or getting ready for lunch or dinner (Tit night life was spectacular with gipsy camps set up around the Life is not hard in Estartit town flamboyant flamenco dancing til dawn) I rambled down the I took a bus tour of Barcelona first just to get my bearings a giant shopping plaza I wandered the the main boulevard Ramblas and parks I saw an albino gorilla at the zoo I rcdlight district I toured Cathedrals district I fell down the staircase at the Picasso passed through the bustlng business Museum (and managed to Finish viewing all the art despite my humiliation) and in the the Sanga dc Familia the afternoon I scrambled all over Gaudi's masterpiece unfinished cathedral he had just begun to build when he died at age 92 struck down by a street car on his way to work of the on Spain I edges As I stixxi on a parapet high above Barcelona sparkling reveled in the realization of my dream my goal had fulfilled my wish of so long ago I was standing on Gaudi's soil Close up his work did not disappoint If any thing it further amazed me The colors fired and then smashed and particularly Colored bits of tile were painted glazed sheen across his structures There were many assembled in a subtle in among traditional architecmixed one of shock The discover to seeing buildings ture took my breath away The apartment building with its warped iron grill work the with its pillars and curving benches the Palace Quell Parquc Quell with its more sedate mcringuc-likfrothy spirals of Gaudi In the process I went back again and again to Barcelona to get enough love of of the A city of beauty of Olympics city - - - - J - - Computer Info - - by Steve Lester Care and Maintenance I have tried to maintain some sort of continuity with my articles starting with the CPU (central processing unit or brains of the computer) and touching lightly on the major components of the computer and the peripherals Last article started into the deep dark secrets of a strange and mysterious phenomenon called DOS The subject of “DOS” is very broad and wc will explore this creature in more detail in future articles that is if I live that long or don’t bore you to death This article is inserted here because I failed to mention care in previous articles and also in the hopes that my own children will read the article and leant something from it That’s asking a bunch First of all they have to read then they must understand and hardest of all they have to actually apply what they learned I observed my own son one day pushing the on off switch to the monitor in rapid succession He wanted to sec how fast the screen would come on Instead he saw how fast I could hit the boiling point Powering on the computer monitor and printer is very hard on all tltree Lots of power is applied instantly causing rapid heating of the This is the same theory as turning on the lights in the house Usually components a light bulb will bum out w hen you apply the electricity to it The element is at room The element temperature and is instantly heated to an extremely high temperature cannot withstand this constant heating and cooling and bums out Same thing happens to your computer The best thing for your system is to leave it running all the time Leaving it on accomplishes several things it reduces the wear on the computer and its components and it will charge your internal battery (most of the later model computers have a battery) One of the best preventive maintenance items that you can purchase would be a dust cover for the CPU monitor and the keyboard A particle of dust appears to be the size of a small boulder when compared to the distance that the rcadwrite head flies above the disk surface Dust can also short out the electrical connections in the CPU or monitor Plastic dust covers can be purchased for under $20 a small investment compared to replacing a monitor or power supply If you cover the compuier or other peripheral with a dust cover do not leave the piece of equipment on The heat that would build up due to the lack of ventilation will damage the components Keep food and drinks away from the computer keyboards and peripherals like the printer A spilled drink can cause major damage to a keyboard Food particles can slip down the sides of the keys and gum up the works making keys slick or shorting out the electrical connection If you need to clean the keyboard or monitor you will want to use alcohol pads The alcohol dries rapidly and docsn t leave a residue W atcr based cleaning products may corrode the electrical connections or short them out Use caution when using cleaning solutions on the plastic cases Some cleaner will melt or dissolve the plastic Buy cleaning solutions that are recommended for electrical parts Magnets are used to erase data from disks as the magnetic pulses on the disks pass under the magnet so keep the refrigerator magnets a good distance from the computer Other damage is possible when magnets are placed on or near the computer If you or my kids would adopt these few maintenance suggestions your computer should operate trouble free for a long time Attention all Open Horse Show barrel nders take the curves naturally showing
