Show Page 6 Millard County Chronic If Pmnress April ISSfl 5 MHS NEWS Millard FFA Eagle dominates at state convention Lance Greener John Pruitt Alycia Greathouse Darin Clay Stacey Nielsen Melanie Larsen and Dan Nielsen By Shawn Q nan berg The Millard Eagle FFA Chapter once again set another state record by receiving sixteen State FFA Degrees The State FFA Degree is the highest degree the Utah FFA Association can bestow upon its members The recipients include: Jeremy Crapo Jsred Carter Curtis Stevens Casey Peterson Sam RB Reid Travis DeGraffenried ProbertTrav is KeslerWillk Mendoza Mike Penney Shine Moore Klinl Penney Damon Averett Burt Vawdrey Shawn Kelly and Shawn Quarnbcrg Millard also set a new State Record by having 3 members recommended for the National FFA Degree which will be presented at the National FFA Convention in Kansas City Missouri next fall These include: Jim Wood Tilden Swallow and Troy Coats In State Proficiencies Millard won more than double what any other chapter won with six State Proficiencies The winners are as follows: Jeremy Crapo Agricultural Electrification Curtis Ste- represented Delta High at Snow College Delta took first place Math team becomes math ocks by Lisa Nielsen The math team travelled to DHS Snow College on March 29 taking first place Three team members Dan Corey Dan Nielsen and Darin Clay were in the lop five The rest of the team members were Tina DeGraw Alycia Greathouse Lance Greener Melanie Larsen Lisa Nielsen Stacey Nielsen and John Pruitt along with advisors Ron Petersen and Karen Roper The test w as a two hour forty question test A student's final score was determined by four times the number of correct answers and subtracting the number wrong After lunch at 1:30 an awards blv was held Awards were given in two 1A categories 3A and 4A schorls and and 2A schools Out of the seventeen schools hi their division Delta placed first with a sxire of 570 points Each team member received an official “Snow College math jock" Three Della students placed in the top five Darin Clay took fifth place and received a book about math concepts Dan Nielsen look third place and received a solar powered calculator Dan Corey placed second and also received a calculator assem- - The first place winner was a student who attends foreign exchange San Juan High The second place team was San Juan with a score of 443 and third place was Richfield with a score of 403 Millard received a total of 284 points “We are really proud of the team" said Mr Ron Petersen “We’ve been trying to win it for three years bin Emery's always beaten us We beat their score this year even if they were in a different division” “It’s the first time we’ve won Snow since Mrs Con ant left" said Mrs Roper Trombones led the big parade by Shawn Bills DHS The lights have been turned off the camera put away and the action of “The Music Man" ended On March 28 “The Music Man" opened with Stacey Nielsen playing Marian Paroo and Curtis Simmons playing Harold Hill A crowd of about two hundred filled the Delta High auditorium Loretta Tenny who sold tickets all four nights of the play said “There were a lot of people and I kept running out of dollar bills because so many people Josh vens Agricultural Processing Ashman Floriculture Man Fuller Forage Production Jared Carter Poultry Production and Crystal Olson Wildlife Management Millard was one of only eight chapters to receive the Five Star Chapter Award for having State Fanners American Fanners State Records State Judging Teams and a Superior Chapter to DHS auditorium The run of Mcridith Wilson’s favorite show perennial “Music Man" drew large crowds each night to the Delta High School auditorium The show closed Saturday March 31 to a packed house Little wonder there were so many people in the audience: some 75 students were in the cast of the show Three major parts were double cast There was a lot of talent behind the scenes as well as on the stage Student Director Kate Nielson is a Drama SterMusic Director Kathy ling Scholar by Curtis Slmtnons DHS T alcnt from all around Region 10 met in Cedar City on March 20 for this year’s Solo and Ensemble festival but Delta High had the most talent as they took more vocalists to the competition than any other school DHS choral department brought eleven soloists three duets two quartets and Della's madrigal choir4 Bone Voce" received Those who Superior rating and will represent Delta at the state festival are Stacey Nielsen soloist “Bone Voce" and a quartet of Corey Thomas Joe Larsen Jeff Ogden and Roger Ogden These performers spent from twenty minutes to two months in preparation for competition “We just decided to do a quartet number the night before” said Jeff Ogden “We only got about twenty minute of practice in but we’re going to state and we’re happy!"
