Analytical Reading Sometimes it is a frustrating decision which book to read first We solved this one this week by reading both at the same time The startling difference in the attitude of the authors was apparent from the very beginning of the books “The Fane her Train" by Amelia Bean was the story of the Mountain Meadow Massacre c 1957 with a long story leading up to the event The author states on the copyright page “AH characters in this book arc fictitious Any resemblance to actual persons living or dead is purely coincidental” Then the prologue the book and the Author's note at the end proceeds to name and identify dozens of characters The characters are presented as vulgar coarse individuals for the most part We believe the way was extremely difficult challenges but there is not reason to believe that they were selfish egotistical and revengeful throughout The second book is “The Princess Casamassima” by Henry James written in 1885 The theme of this book is the social revolution of Europe at the time of Napolean Both books deal with a social issue both told through the volvement of central characters supported fry their acquaintances and the events of their times Both deal with all “classes” of the populace as in England where “classes” actually existed at the time and in America where the of society has been assi gned to the historian and author Usually the opinion of the author comes through the writing and mingles with the view of the reader If the “feel” of the work is distasteful the reader will quit reading or become engrossed with the story line and complete the work We finished “The Fanchcr Train" and are still working on "The Princess Casamassima” Thank you Wright retires (F There will be a 15 mile trail ride for those of you who wish to ride at your own leisure It will start one hour after the rides There will also be a completion award presented It will not be a judged ride It is being offered for your enjoyment Lunch will be served during the awards ceremony after all riders of the 3 rides return to base camp There will be an Endurance Ride Clinic April 13 at the Paradise Restaurant Convention Room at 7:30 (free of charge) Please feel free to come even if you’ll be late We know some will have to ” travel after work This is a great educational experience for you to learn what endurance riding is all about You will be able to carry it over to any equestrian sports You will be taught how to train before a ride and how to take care of your horse during and after a ride These amples are just the tip of the iceberg Do not bring horses to the clinic They are not needed at this time Everyone is welcomed to the above eventj It will be fun for all ages For more information call Kellie Carter or Vickie Mitchell or
