Valley Farms Utah DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES DIVISION OF WILDLIFE RESOURCES Experience the Wildlife by Dave Smith Officer Conservation Rabbit and chuckar seasons still open Those of sou who are getting cabin fever with all this snow and want to get out and hunt a little should be taking advantage of the continuing cottontail rabbit and chuckar seasons Both species are still in season until January 31 Daily bag limits for cottontails and chuckars are 10 and 5 respectively Despite heavy local snows many of the canyons and mountains out west have been losing much of their snow cover soon after each snow Of course since they are not tied to water as they were at the beginning of the season chuckars may be a little harder to find now Cottontails have shown an increase over the last few years Rabbit populations are cyclic meaning that through the course of years populations will rise then crash then rise again Throughout the United States cottontails are the most popular game animal to hunt Surprisingly very few “cottontail” hunters are checked in the field in this county That’s unfortunate because there probably isn’t a better game species to train young hunters with than cottontails The fact that they are very good to eat should be more centive to some hunters Unlike which are not protected in jackrabbits Utah cottontail hunters need a combination or small game license So before boredom really sets in consider hunting some of Utah’s forgotten small game Chuckar program Those ol you who are interested in taking part in the DVVR's chuckar program may want to contact your local conservation officer The DWR will give young chuckars to individuals or groups to raise and release imo local chuckar habitat Individuals provide the pen food and care We recommend people take at least 50 birds to compensate for early mortali Leah and one daughters Samantha month old baby Lrikr They are from Salt Lake City and w re here from until Monday T last week To visit President and Mis Michael Rose and family Julie Dale and Jordan Dean invited folk Heber and Dora ty which often takes place Before some of you start thinking of raising 150 or more birds realize this birds must be weeks old kept until they are You’d be surprised how much feed 150 V grown chuckars will go through in a week We only want to give biros to those people who will give them proper care and release them when they are old enough to survive Rose to accompany them to Provo where they visited with sister Della Twitcheli In a rushing pressuring time we would pause to remind ouselves that the purpose of life is to understand that life is for fulfillment There are both the fulfillers and the destroyc rs There are always or most always the opposite forces which are pulling against the fulfillment then there are forces always crowding every being and structure out to its completest realization of itself Nature takes heed of every capacity which she finds anywhere and turns it into life— to make each imperfection a little less imperfect and more perfect There are those who have possession of destructive criticism that undermines others Fulfillment calls for sympathy intelligence patience and hope from those who build and not destroy Those who will reach out who encourage and strengthen |
