1979 the pool has had problems with the shower controls in the locker rooms The showers have been habitual for sticking on and also the insides of the automatic controls are forever The maintenance breaking people would repair one shower when another one would break The recreation board has given the pool management and maintenance people permission to try out a new manual turn system If the new system is successful the old touch and flow controls in both the mens and womens shower rooms will be replaced The new valve is a manual turn on and off style so a person will be able to leave it on as long as needed and a person can also adjust the water flow The only problem we see with the new type is that a person might forget to turn the valve off Thurs Dec 22 the pool will close at 7 pm so Phillips Information Manager DWR Salt Lake Office Ice fishing can be a safe and enjoyable sport if common sense guidelines are followed Unlike summer fishing the most important question bait to use but whether or what isn’t not the ice is safe For example two inches of ice will support one adult of average weight three inches of ice will support a small group of people provided they walk in single file and remain well spaced four inches of ice is generally safe for all ice Fishing thick will usually ice over support the weight of a car In addition while on the ice stop look and listen often Watch for color They changes and cracking patterns may mean the ice is weak Look out for holes that other anglers have cut Listen for cracking sounds indicating weak ice’Remember that new ice is stronger than old ice white ice is only about half as strong as clear blue ice river ice is much weaker than lake ice If you fall through the ice: extend your arms flat on the surrounding ice squirm the upper part of your body onto the ice roll quickly to one side away from the edge get out of those wet clothes and get warm quickly If you see someone fall through the ice: find a pole rope or article of clothing and extend one end to victim (this will ensure that the victim doesn’t go under) Lie flat on the ice to keep weight distributed evenly spreading arms and legs as you move toward the victim explain the recovery technique (above) to the victim and offer assistance if possible Don’t try to pull the person out or you’ll both end up in the water and Ice fishing can be a pleasant rewarding experience Popular waters like Bear Lake Willard Bay Mantua Deer Creek Scofield Panguitch and Otter Creek reservoirs offer some of the year’s best fishing through the ice Women’s volleyball
