Show Messiah takes new dimension The annual production of The Messiah by the West Millard Oratorio Society has taken on a wonderful new dimension with the addition of the full orchestral accompaniment provided by the excellent Eskdale Community Orchestra Following the initial rehearsal of the combined groups Thursday Dec 8 enthusiasm and excitement abound! Hearing date set in murder case Ken Rand A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Jan 24 and 25 in East Millard Justice of the Peace Court in Fillmore for two men accused of first degree murder in connection with the death of Gordon Ray Church and Michael Anthony Archuleta Lance Conway Wood are being held m the Millard County jail without bond pending the hearing The two are accused of kidnapping and killing an SUSC student Church’s Church body was found near Cove Fort Nov 23 County Attorney Warren Peterson will Richfield said Marcus Taylor represent Wood while Michael Esplin Provo will represent Archuleta “Millard County has a public defender” Peterson said “but this case is not included in his by contract” the Utah County Public “He has experience in capital cases” Peterson said “Taylor is familiar to county residents as the guy who defended George Wesley Hamilton” Hamilton was convicted on charges of second degree murder in the death of Sharon Sant in 1986 “Taylor did two men charged with capital homicide in connection with the death of Gordon Ray Church confessed he witnessed the crime and led deputies to the body Wood and Michael Anthony Archuleta are being held in Millard County jail without bond pending a Jan 24 preliminary hearing Information from the affidavit was published in the Cedar City Spectrum Friday Dec 9 and by the Associated Press m the Deseret News and Salt Lake T ribune Saturday Dec 0 The case record was ordered sealed Nov 25 by East Millard County Justice of the Peace Ron Hare the day Wood and Archuleta were arrested The information published by the Spectrum and reprinted by AP was from an affidavit by Iron County Attorney Scott Burns and is part of the case Hare ordered sealed Burns confirmed Friday that the affidavit based on an interview with Wood was used to obtain a search warrant from 5th Circuit Judge Robert Braithwaite the AP said The warrant was for a search of the Cedar City apartment ofPau'a Sue Jones Castle Dale Archuleta’s girlfriend and a SUSC senior Archuleta and Wood had been staying with Jones and another woman in after they had been the apartment paroled from the Utah Slate prison in October According to the Spectrum the two inen met the two SUSC students by telephoning requests to the college radio station where one of the women worked as a di lockey Jones was bound over to district Dm court in Ron County Thursday 8 on charges ol obstructing justice by harboring a suspected felon and delayby deception ing his apprehension According to mforma'ion in the fidavit on Nov 21 Wood and Archuleta talked Church into driving them to Salt Lake City in his car When allev area of they reached the Dog Millard County a few miles north of Cove Fort Archuleta pulled a knife and “cut Church on the neck
