Margaret Walker Roper Margaret Walker Roper age 88 died October 28 at the Delta Community Medical Center She was born February 9 1900 in a daughter of Ezra Lindon Utah Foutz and Annie Swenson Walker She married Parley L Roper June 18 1924 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple He died 1959 They were the parents of two Betty Jane and Anna daughters Rachael She graduated from BYU and taught in the elementary schools in Oak City and Delta for 32 years She served as first President of the Camp Rebecca Deseret Daughters of the Utah Pioneers She also served on the Oak City Town Board at a time when in women were seldom involved politics She was an active member of the LDS Church serving in the various served as a teacher and organizations secretary in the Sunday School teacher and director of dance and speech in the MIA in Relief Society she served as a teacher drama leader chorister and She taught Jr a visiting teacher Seminary in Oak City for two years in Primary as a teacher activity director chorister and as Stake President for six years She wrote several articles for the book Milestones of Millard had poems published in the Children’s Friend Improvement Era and Vol II of Utah Sings She also published two books “Echoes of the Sage and Cedars” a Centennial History of Oak City published in 1969 Copies of this book have been requested by the libraries of all the universities in the State of Utah and also by the Church Historical her second book titled Society “Whisperings” a collection of poems that she had written for her students and grandchildren She is survived by a daughter Mrs Betty Jane Roper Morris of Hinckley Mrs Roger (RuthAnna) grandchildren Howes Lee and wife Lori Mrs David Byron Peter Nielson Byron Peter Nielson 78 died Sunday October 2 1988 in San Antonio Texas He was born April 17 1910 in Utah to Peter N and Oak City Caroline Ely Anderson Nielson He married Gladys Reid September 17 1942 in San Antonio Texas He attended the Oak City Elementary School and graduated from the Delta High School and the University of Utah and did graduate work toward a doctorate at the University of Minnesota He served a 2 Vi year mission for the LDS Church in the From 1942 Mission to 1947 he did intelligence work for the Department of Defense in San Antonio and Germany He was an instructor of modern languages at the University of Utah for four years He lived in San Antonio since 1951 where he was a teacher at the preflight school and later in charge of testing in the Officers Candidate School at Lackland Air Force for the Base He wrote textbooks for the schools English language military services in all foreign areas He served two years in Turkey in an administrative capacity with the Turkish Air Force He taught night school German classes at the San Antonio College for many years and ended his career as an editor of English language textbooks at the English Language Institute at Lackland He was an active member of the LDS Church throughout his life and was a High Priest in the San Antonio First Ward where he served for many years as a Home Teacher and a Sunday School teacher and was serving as Ward Clerk at the time of his death He is survived by
