Fillmore Library By Gwen Librarian Hunter Fillmore 25 South Utah 100 West itaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Handicap Ramp The finishing touches have been added to the new concrete handicap ramp at the south door of the library This project is the product of City funds and LSCA Construction funds with a special provision allowing the work to be done by city crews on regular hours The library received a grant of $950 from the state funds which paid for half the materials Jack Peterson was foreman on the job with the help of David Allen Ross Cummings and Chuck Vogel city employees The library really appreciates the new convenience as do our customers who have with stairs The extends difficulty ramp to the parking space reserved for handicap patrons crossing the sidewalk and breaking through the curb Gifts Available There are some new items in the Library Giftique suitable for all ages from babies to Grandmother These items have been handmade or donated new for fund raising for the library All are attractive and useful Prices of items in the Christmas Bazaar have been reduced Request Early Here is a little hint for the student patrons of the library— when an assignment is given for a paper or research project check out sources early The group just finishing up reports on states was a little out of sorts because we din’t have several books on each state No library has such facilities not even the State Library We were able to come up with many articles in past National Geographies and material in Encyclopedias and History books for this particular report The first come first serve always applies it’s the patron who waits until the night before the report is due to start looking for material who has nothing left to choose from Jim One favor which we would like to suggest is that those who get the material first finish the report and return the book for someone else to use This is particularly applicable now that books are checked out for a month at a time Interlibrary Loan services are available all the time but it must be remembered that it takes a little time usually a week if the state has the book and longer if it comes from another White Called to serve Elder Jim White has been called to serve in the Japan Fukuoka Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Saints His farewell will be Sunday December 27 1987 at 11:50 am in the Scipio Ward Scipio UT He will enter the Mission Home on January library We are happy to help patrons learn Our to do research in our library shelves are not labeled yet because we are still shifting books but it doesn’t take long to learn our system Plan to spend a little time when you come in and it will pay off to research handsomely Fund Raising The object of our Fund Raising at the moment is to obtain a folding door to divide the multipurpose room into two classrooms for the Adult Reading We are working on getting Program a few more dollars to supplement the grants from the State Library Commission Adult Reading Classes Our new sessins will begin in January and continue through April We plan two sessions for Spanish speaking patrons one for those who attended last spring and summer and one for beginning students Those who enroll should be over 18 or not be attending school There will also be an Asian class as well as Caucasian These classes will all Patrons depend on the enrollment wishing to attend these free classes should come to the library and register know need We to December during how many students will be involved so we may finish purchasing the materials Please help spread the word to anyone who may benefit from the program As you probably have noticed improving literacy has been receiving a lot of attention on the TV and in magazines and newspapers--fo- r stance in Heloise’ column last week Art Exhibit The Three Brothers art exhibit is being appreciated by library patrons each and every day If you have not been in 1987 6 Thank you The family of Guy Mitchell wish
