during World War II in the South Pacific area Thayne married Ilene Cornell of Salt Lake City Utah on June 15 1946 He was employed by the US Bureau of Reclamation in Wyoming Montana and Texas He retired from the Bureau of Reclamation Amarillo Texas where he served as Regional Economist His home has been in Amarillo for the past years He is survived by his wife Ilene Cornell Roberts Amarillo Continental bus lines since 1945 John was Charter president of the Fillmore Jr Chamber of Commerce Fillmore City Councilman Republican Precinct Chairman member of the Fillmore Volunteer Fire Dept officer in East Millard Riding Club and Kiwanis Club He was a member of the LDS Church and served as MIA President Sunday School Superintendent Boy Scout leader YMMIA sports coach High Priest group leader and home teacher John was a fan of Millard High School athletics and sports booster of BYU president of Uptown Quarterback club avid sportsman and hunter He loved his wife and family above
