Mrs Salena D Christiansen received word that her grandson Bryan Christiansen son of Mrs Joel ChrisUtah tiansen formerly of Holden recently competed at the National Track and Field Meet in Hershey Pennsylvania Bryan was the Utah State first place winner in the softball throw event held earlier this summer and as the first place winner he qualified for the National Meet Competing against the softball best 11 and 12 throwers in the country Bryan broke the record in the State of Utah and finished in fourth place in the Nationals He threw the ball 5212 meters If Bryan had been able to throw the ball as far as he did in the Utah meet he would have taken national first place The meet was held August 15 1987 Bryan traveled to the meet with other members of the Utah team His parents also attended the meet In all there were 680 youngsters competing Bryan used to live in Holden Guild On Oct the Fine Arts meeting was presided over by President Tafta WatAfter the minutes and anson nouncements Julie Limburg who is this year’s Sterling Scholar in Foreign Relations gave a delightful and informative report on her recent stay in FILLMORE Angie Green Zina Hunter enjoyed the weekend of October with three of her children Her son Larry Hunter came from Portland Oregon Thursday and her Maxine and her husband daughter Bernell Evans of Salt Lake City came on Saturday Saturday morning they visited and listened to conference In the afternoon they drove to Cedar ty still enjoying conference on the car radio In Cedar City they went to the home of Zina’s daughter Sherrill her husband Steve Lunt and their family They were served a lovely dinner and watched slides taken while Maxine and Bernell were touring Europe Some of the places they visited were Greece Italy and Austria and while they were there they visited Vienna and Johannesburg where they attended a concert They toured several beautiful islands and while in Italy Rome was of special interest because Bernell was stationed there when he was serving in the Armed Services and also Rome was where he fulfilled a mission for the LDS Church Many castles and other buildings and places of great beauty were visited and the last stops before going home were beautiful England and Ireland The bright lush gree quaint cottages castles palaces Big Ben and church spires put the icing on the cake Well after ten days of having a grand time and soaking up a little culture they boarded a plane homeward bound bringing with them boxes of slides and pictures which told the whole story far better than words They drove back to Fillmore the same day returning to their own homes the following day On October 8 Alta Shumway had a brief visit with her son Lafe his wife Joyce and their family of American Fork on their way to Lake Powell Acthem were Craig and companying Tammy Bartholomew and their family followed by a boat The two families had a good time boating and water skiing and enjoying the beautiful lake Alta says Lafe and family will be back for the deer hunt and stay longer Doma Frampton reports that her brother Fred Melville is moving from his present home in New Harmony Utah to Fillmore He should arrive October 9 in his new mobile home to take up residence at the Wagon West Mobile Home Park Fred has reached retirement age and has retired from the Civil Service He Japan Sylvia Huntsman then introduced following candidates for Fillmore City Council: Suzanne Limburg Mike Rhinehart Eric Larsen Stuart Bailey and Charles Ferguson Charles was represented by his wife Susan Each candidate gave a brief talk on his or her goals if elected All expressed a desire to see the city progress through increased business attracting new business and providing more for our youth Members asked several questions of the candidates Everyone agreed that people have a good choice of candidates this year the was postmaster in New Harmony for many years Now that he is "a man without a job” he wants to spend his time with his siter Doma other members of his family and long time Fillmore friends and maybe throw a fly out one in awhile Angie Green went to Delta on Sunday where she joined her sister Millie Pace and her grandson Josh Pace They drove to Provo where they met Josh’s mother and baby sister Josh spent the long weekend with his grandparents in Delta returning to Salt Lake City to resume school on Monday Matt and Lee Townsley have returned after a few weeks visit with their daughter Marcie Townsley in California They went there especially to help Marcie move into her new home More next week about pullin up all those roots that seem to be permanently in place after growing in the same spot for so many years and transplanting them to all new surroundings The Townsleys have had to adjust to transplanting many times so they were glad to be with their daughter to help her adjust to her new surroundings and also help lift the heavy boxes and other things Angie Green’s brother Layne his wife Goldie of Pleasant Grove and their daughter Nannette and her husband Dorian Keiser of Las Vegas Nevada stopped in Fillmore for dinner and a short visit with Angie on their way to Las Vegas Nannette and Dorian came to Pleasant Grove to help Nannette’s parents drive a car and a truck pulling a mobile home to Las Vegas where the Bottomfields will be spending the winter They will be returning home
