September 9 in Manti proved victorious for the Eagles 9th grade team as they tied the Templers one match each Although the JV and Varsity suffered losses they played Debgood games—MVP’s names were bie Child 9th grade Delise Perkins JV and Cindy Taylor Varsity Thursday September 11 the game was held at Millard against the Kanab Cowboys Ninth grade and JV crushed the Cowboys winning their games in two matches each The varsity gave them some rough riding in the first match but lost with a score of 14 to 16 Kanab went on to win the match and game MVP’s Thursday were Cheryl O’Camb 9th grade and Mitzi Dudley and Jamie Rhodes for JV New tennis courts get approved Delta stuns Richfield 1 After opening the season with two losses the Delta High Rabbits bounced back and bounced back big with a win over previously Richfield Friday handing the Wildcats their First loss of the season The game started out as a defensive struggle as neither team could really gain an advantage But suddenly Delta Millard School Board has voted to replace the 50 yr old courts at Millard High School The plan is to tear out the existing courts this fall and lay the soil base Next spring when the construction on repairing Since the needed parts did not arrive in time for the usual September closing the board had to find a time to close the pool which would not interfere with all the different scheduled pool activities It has been decided that the least amount of activity will be going on in the pool will Therefore December have its annual maintenance done from December 24 to January 3 The board hopes this scheduled closing will fit in with everyones schedule Roger Olpin of Fillmore has been a faithful lap swimmer here at the West Millard Pool for several years On Thursday September 3 he completed 350 accumulative swimming miles Roger knows by keeping physically fit through swimming that he feels so much better physically and mentally Roger is a mortician by trade and he jokingly says he not going to stop next goal is to reach 100 miles Fay like to teach a sport as required in the new They will also be a welcome addition for the community which has had a surprising interest in tennis in spite of a lack of facilities If there is sufficient interest tennis can be played competitively with other schools Girls would compete in the fall and boys would compete in the spring with track Delta volleyball opened up the season with a victory over South Sevier The varsity team won with a score of the JV won with scores and and the Freshmen playof ing for their first time in front of a home crowd won with scores of Delta also played Richfield and this past week defeating them with considerable ease The varsity team participated in two tournaments They placed 4th at the Box Elder and in Las Vegas the girls were eliminated during their second day of play The JV team plactournament in ed 2nd at a South Sevier “It was a good experience It let the girls play teams that were better than they I think they all learned from the mistakes that were made” said Coach Acor after the tournament The teams play North Sevier at home September 17 The freshmen will play at 4:30 JV at 5:30 and
