Show Page I - Millard Coaaty USPS Than Sept 17 PTA promotes Potato Bash 1987 MHS by Kelly Phillips MHS student returns from Japan G71 K of Julie Limburg Student Body President Millard High School has returned from an stay in Japan She received a partial scholarship as 1st runner-uin the Youth Program The Youth Program sponsors 2 full scholarships and 2 partial scholarships to students from each state in an effort to create understanding and good will between the two nations Each high school may select one student to apply for the scholarship Students stay 8 weeks with a host Japanese family learning their customs and gaining an appreciation for a culture different from their own Julie lived with a family in Osaka Japan consisting of the parents of girls 16 and 18 She was to be considered part of the family and experience Japanese life first hand Being able to attend school a couple of days was one of the highlights of her trip She found the experience quite different from an American education Students attend school 8 hours a day 6 days a week and months a year Great respect is shown the teachers Japanese students take their educations very seriously and see it as their passport to success and respect in the adult world Students are expected to study extensively and little else is required of them while they are in school Julie found she was quite an attraction with her blonde hair Everywhere she went people would flock around to “have a look” Language was not a big as many Japanese problem speak English quite well including her entire host family Impressive to Julie was MHS PTA & Adult Education Julie Limburg their use of space beauty of their land their kind and giving way and the unique mixture of the old and the modern in Japan They seem to have and make quite an effort to be “American” She found it find difficult to gifts to bring home that didn’t have American writing or an American look Julie says it was a fantastic although at times a very difficult experience-owhich she really grew from She came home with a deeper love and apFillmore her preciation of America family and a deep respect for a culture much different from our own Back- - to - School Millard High School the night will be held Wednesday September 23 Parents are invited to come visit with the teachers and administration and find out what will be school happening during the year The PTA invites everyone to meet in the boys’ gym at 7:00 pm for a short introduction and program Then teachers will discuss their curriculum and methods for grading as parents scholarships Show your by attending support night MHS PTA Student Adult Education classes will begin at Millard High School with registration on Tuesday September 22 1987 at 7:00 pm Courses to be offered are: Preparation for the General Education Test (GED) Computers and Word Processing Conversational Spanish Mechanics Art Cost for twelve weeks is $3600 meeting once each week for three hours There is no charge for school graduates over 18 years of age Further information can be obtained by calling the high school at Earning USU degrees via topic of orientation Com-N- Night move though their student’s schedule Refreshments will be served Also there will be a membership table set up for parents to join PTA Memberships are $150 per person and help to sponsor many worthwhile activities and Bonnie Baugh Representative wwvw SUPER SENSATIONAL SC The Homecoming week will be topped off by the annual PTA Bash of your Speaking of topping-somushroom choices will be stroganoff sauce brocolli with cheese grated cheese and sour cream Hot rolls tossed salad and cake will also be served and the meal is An outstanding program will be presented and will feature local talent including the Sunshine Generation Gather your friends family and everyone else and come join in on the from fun October pm in the high school lunchroom Adult tickets (ages 13 and up) are $300 children’s tickets are $200 and under 5 eat free or you can buy 9 family ticket for only $1200 Come join us and stay for the traditional “Bunny Bum” Hope to see you there!
