recently received promotions Sharon Robison has been from the position of promoted Resource Clerk to the Support Services Specialist on the District In this position she serves as full staff assistant in budget and Fmance personnel manageShe ment and office management replaces Patsy Iverson who retired last year Sharon came to the Fishlake National Forest in September of 1981 as for the Fillmore Ranger a District In 1984 she was promoted to Resrouce Clerk During this period she award in received a performance recognition of her outstanding work HOLDEN Cherryl Wood Ph The whole community was saddened by the sudden passing of Johnny Monsen on Monday April 27 Funeral services were held on Friday May in the Holden Ward Our deepest sympathy to his wife Chris and five children his parents Lewis and Janet Monsen and all of his brothers and sisters Julie and Lynn Syddall and family Robert and of Evanston Wyoming Teresa and two children of Salt Lake Bryce and Sharlene and daughter of Provo were all here for their brother’s services Tracy Larsen and daughter Erin flew out form Lincoln Nebraska for the services of her Johnny Monsen Her sisters Jill Jayne and Laurie and their husbands and families were also here for the funeral They were all guests of their parents Bill and Charlene Tuttle Twin sons of Jeff and Stacy Johnson were blessed Sunday and given the for assuming additional duties during the absence of another district employee Sharon is originally from Omaha Nebraska and is married to Wendell Robison They are the parents of four children Takako Scottorn was promoted from to Resrouce Clerk She was reinstated with the Forest Service in 1986 after working for First Security Bank for three years Prior to that she worked for the Fillmore Ranger District of the Fishlake National Forest from February 1978 to October 1981 Takako a native of Iwakuni Japan became a US citizen in 1977 She and her husband Terry have three children names of Cody Chet and Dusty Jeff Here for the special occasion were Chester Johnson of Lund Nevada Jeff’s sisters Pamiel of Tacoma Washington Ginger of Montana and Diane Buckwalter and family of Salt Lake Spending the weekend at Jess and Estell Bennett’s were their daughter Sue Esplin husband Karl and six children of Cedar City Jerris and Melvin Bennet and six children of Nephi drove down to spend Sunday visiting Brent and Debbie and four children of Holden joined them for visiting Grant Wood flew to Cleveland Ohio for four days last week on a business trip for his company Brush Wellman Co of Delta Robert and Cherryl and family Grant and Norma and family were in Salt Lake last Saturday for the Temple wedding of their niece Tamara Aston and Brent Ault They attended the reception in Orem that same evening Tammy is the daughter of Helen and Bruce Ashton and granddaughter of Reed and Virginia Wood of Orem Paul and Dorothy Beckham will be going to Santa Anna CA to attend the Patricia wedding of Paul’s niece Rohem The wedding will take place at the Crystal Cathedral followed by a reception at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim CA Vonda Peterson spent many happy days with members of her family during the Easter holidays Her son Eddy and his wife Winona Peterson of Salt Lake City accompanied by their son Gary his wife Lisa and their two sons of Provo came to Fillmore on Friday April 17 and stayed through Saturday night going home Sunday morning in time to attend church Vonda went back with them staying in Salt Lake until Friday April 24 on which day she returned to Fillmore with Betty Conrad who came to visit her mother Delell Brunson She stayed over the weekend and she and Delell attended the Fine Arts Closing Social When she returned home Delell went with her so she could visit with her sisters Teen Fawn Rama and Carol in Salt Lake City The Pink Ladies celebrated their National Volunteer Week by giving each member a card and a beautiful of carnations I just received mine by special delivery glorious days in Nashville TN with the heating contractors of Utah Tour Group which numbered 52 Some of the highlights of their tour of this fabulous city included a sail up the Cumberland River on the General Jackson Riverboat where they had breakfast and enjoyed some special entertainment by very talented young MEADOW Norma Gagon Ph FerGood friends since childhood ris Bennett and Deona Larsen drove down from Salt Lake together this past weekend to visit their respective mothers Roma Bird and Della Bennett Ferris also shared her talent by replacing her mother at the organ in Sacrament Meeting Later in the day they returned to Salt Lake A friend surely makes that trip more enjoyable Betty Mae and DeLynn Labrum were delighted to have all their children with them on the 25th Jeffrey and his were up from young son Aaron Arizona (Wife Lynette and her mother were in Hawaii) They were going to be here for four days so John came down from Logan Vickie drove over from Moab and with There will be a class reunion However it will be Watch for future held in December notices This was musicians and dancers followed by a tour of the original Grand Ole Opry and their new show place where they saw Grand Ole Opry stars Loretta Lynn Grand Pa Jones The and Roy Acoff and others Nashville Museum was exciting and fun One of its main attractions was Elvis Presley’s fabulous Cadillac and other beautiful things that he had owned and used Everywhere they went there was good entertainment performed mostly by young people and always good food Well a tour isn’t a tour without a ' ride around town and they did seeing many beautiful mansions surrounded by spacious gorgeous landscaping and among those which were outstanding was the home of Minnie Pearl with her yellow Cadillac parked in front And the tour wasn’t over until they visited the Nashville National Park where young people entertained with music song and dancing One thing Beth and Bertis will always fondly remember about Nashville is the friendliness of its people A feeling of being welcome always puts the icing on the cake This is a place you will want to visit again and again The tour group traveled by air and on their way home had a rather lengthy layover in Chicago Both say this was a sardine can experience no place for a claustrophobic and could be a frightening experience for a person alone It was fun to go but it was also good to be home again except when entering Fillmore they found it wasn’t exactly the hub of excitement Just a little quiet already here the five were able to be together for food and fun The Leonard Cole’s have been a travelin’ since the latter part of March A quick trip down and back to the Los Angeles area to see Leonard’s sister and then off for Tacoma Washington for a two week stay with children Marilyn Furber and family and Richard Barkdull and family The weather was beautiful for them and to top off a nice time Marilyn came back with them for a visit Wouldn’t you know though they arrived here just in time for our Easter snow! A great big congratulation to Lynn and Lynette Bond on the birth of their new little daughter Kacie She put in an appearance two weeks early but they aren’t sending her back! Brother and sister Colby and Claudia are proud as punch and being very helpful “?” Speaking of being proud that feeling surrounded me Saturday the 25th as I atended the graduation of my son David at Symphony Hall in Salt Lake He received his Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix Utah Division There were nearly 200 graduates most I Masters able to was even receiving visit with some friends from California whose son was in the group Not all trips we take are for a pleasant reason 11a and Wilbur Rowley were in Blanding to attend the funeral of Ila’s brother They remained there Dathel Whitaker Ph Willard and Dathel Whitaker enjoyed their 2V days stay in St George from April 22 to 24 They each did two sessions at the temple Wed evening before signing in at the Rococo Inn It is really a thrill to look down over beautiful St George from this Inn built up on a hillside One also becomes aware of the wide straight streets laid out by Brigham Young during the colonization period Willard did eight sessions at the temple on Thursday and Friday while Dathel attended a training seminar for managers of the Beehive Clothing Distribution Centers There are 59 centers in the US The 13 managers involved in this seminar were from Richfield Manti Delta Fillmore St George Nephi Cedar City and Price Utah Snowflake Mesa and Phoenix AZ and Las Vegas NV A lot of questions were answered and a lot of help was given by group managers Rick Smith Jean Kirkham Kris Christensen and other members of Beehive Clothing staff They comDathel on the recent 26 were Linda Whatcott (retiring President of the Ward Primary) and one of her counselors The Cindy Turner other counselor Tami deHaan was out of town The other speaker was Edith Cummings who will continue on as Primary Secretary The musical numbers were furnished by the Primary children Laura also sang a solo The new installed Primary Presidency is Pam deGraffenried as President for a week Our deepest sympathy goes out to Dean and Evelyn Mallet They received word on the 23rd that their Shirley had passed away She had been ill with cancer for about 7 years but it still seemed sudden The Mallets left on the 25th to fly to San Jose California to be with their son Gary and children Mike 19 and Sheri 13 Their daughter Francine Cowie came down from Spokane Washington and sang at the funeral Evelyn was impressed with the great care and concern shown to Gary and his family by his Bishop and Ward To help make things easier for them Evelyn and Francine organized and closets and cupboards straightened before leaving Seems keeping busy and being useful is a great healer with Starr Cummings as 1st Counselor and Susan Moody as 2nd Counselor Sharon Blad is the new Primary Inservice Leader Linda Whatcott won’t be getting a rest she is the new Activities Committee Chairman for the ward to Starr and MarCongratulations vin Cummings on their new 14x70 wide home that has recently been placed on Marvin’s lot south of the Andy Anderson home It is on the same block as Marvin’s mother (Lela’s) home also to Jeff and Congratulations Margaret (Turner) Roper on the arrival of a 9 lb 5 oz son born on Friday April 24 in Huntsville AL He will be named Ryan Jeffery Roper Bishop Bill Turner wife Arlene and daughter Sue Koyle and her daughter Suzzette left soon after receiving participated in the festival called the Western Royale in Cedar City which was organized around the gymnastics Redfoot were Madelan exhibition Louise Bushhead from Kanosh and ID Cheryl James form Kamaith (daughter of Shirley James) They had to dress in original Indian dress cook at the Indian sleep etc in a village Madelan wore a beautiful Indian Princess dress and participated in the parade and war dance Her brother Ralph Pikyavit wore the original war Their display consisted of bonnett buckskin bead work and fry bread Madelan reports that they had a large group of sightseers enter their the days they were there through Dean Perkins with his Belgium Team pulled the wagon carrying the PRCA cowboys He also displayed his saddles and leader goods One Russian especially was very cited to
