"danger" and “warning" may sound repetitious but they have different meanings when they appear on pesticides and household product labels "Danger" may mean that the product is flammable corrosive or highly toxic You must read the rest of the label to find out “Captan (in its farm pesticide formulation) has the word "Danger” on the label but not because of a hazard of poisoning from ingestion It is labeled “Danger" because it is corrosive if it gets in your eyes" says Di Howard Deer USU Extension pesticide specialist but still "The often repeated advice critically important regarding potentially toxic products is that you read all labels carefully before using the In most casc all safety products formation is just have to take the time to read it” Deer says He says pesticide labels contain formation telling you in what ways the product may be toxic That is what are the results of the substance being swallowed inhaled or absorbed through the skin or if it gets in your eyes The label should also give information telling what protective clothing if any is needed to safely apply the substance Proper storage and disposal methods are part of the label quirements as well The label also should contain information telling you how to administer in case of a emergency treatment mishap Deer says Regarding specific labeling words Deer says these are the guidelines used for pesticides: Means a high hazard potential and that a few drops to one Millard County The cooperative education program which allows students to earn university credit for experience is Utah State being offered through University's education center at 305 E 200 W Delta Donna Crow coordinator of the college of business cooperative education program at USU says the program is very beneficial to people who want to improve the skills they need in their job At the same time they are able to earn up to 18 college credit hours in a business major because of their work “If what you are studying or wish to study is related to the work you do then you can get credit for that work through cooperative education” said Crow Cooperative education offers several ways to go to college and work It is possible to go to school part time and work part time or to alternate such as going to school for six months and workingsix months The extended day plan means a person works full time and goes to college in the evening There are a limited number of classes available through the center "Being able to get up to 18 credits for experience is an appealing part of cooperative education in business because there is not a full range of classes available in the evenings" said Crow “We are willing to work with anyone interested to design a cooperative education program that best fits the student’s needs" Crow said she thinks many people interested in linking their professional interests and academic interests will find cooperative education internships an ideal solution Additional information ease with Craig Greathouse He was dissatisfied with the work that he was doing and he knew that he needed a change Although he and his wife had a growing family they had the courage to venture fotth on a new and unknown path Not knowirtg what the future held for them Craig and Deb packed and headed back to Delta Craig had no job They knew only that they were returning home where they would be near family (Craig had grown up in I ynndyl Deb daughter of the former Chronicle had been boin and raised in Delta) What work was available? How could the young father suppoit his family? Deb saw an advertisement in the Chronicle She teased Craig that he could purchase a franchise in an established Time— and make money To Deb the idea was a big joke In fact she never expected take her to Craig seriously To many people such potential sounded intriguing To Craig trying to support a family the possibilities were promising le decided to take the risk More is involved in such a venture than may be realized The main office of Taco Time located in Eugene Oregon dictates much of what must he done in the business After buying their franchise from the Ogden branch Deb attended two weeks on the job training This was May 1977 Taco Time wanted Craig to buy a modular building-oof its design-tthe new store Craig however had a different idea He chose to build his own building This he did Delta's Taco Time was opened for business in August 1977 The Greathouses have just had their ninth business anniversary As they begin their tenth year they remember the eatly years and they look to the future At the time when they vvete getthe ting everything “off the ground” bank told them that the fust five yeats were crucial for any new business According to that Deb and Craig are over the made it There are and have been trials and for the tribulations businesswise Greathouses There have also been successes and feelings of satisfaction Deb does admit that owning a franchise is not all that “it's cracked up to be" for a franchise is binding and limiting Twice a year there is supposed to be an Tacit inspection and an evaluation month royalties on their gross must be paid and advertising fees are charged The latter benefit the company but provide little locally The menu is dictated and the company suggests that all food be purchased through and shipped from Oregon The cost of shipping is Conprohibitive for the Greathouses sequently they do the major part of their buying in Salt Lake City Paper in are goods purchased Nephi meat and cheese are bought locally Having your own business requires hard wotk and commitment of time money and energy With school in session Craig works Iron 9 am to 4 pm and Deb woiks at least two hours daily In past yeats they have had managers but they now assume total responsibility During the summer months Craig opens the shop and then the employees take over for the day Everyone cooks serves and cleans Hut even in the summer it is necessary for Deb and Craig to be available lot they do all the buying and they are In responsible for the total operation the past ten years the longest vacation the Great houses have had was four days It's just too difficult to get away Thirteen to fifteen employees son Jason cluding their fifteen look to Deb and Craig for guidance and supervision According to Deb the promised "boom'' for Delta failed to materialize as predicted It helped business a little but not as much as promised The flux of people led to new businesses and to dreams and hopes for success What has happened is that Delta is now saturated with eating establishments This has hindered rather than helped all restaurateurs Would Deb like the of city to regulate the number businesses according to need? Well it would help personally but she isn’t convinced that the idea is fair or equitable Deb admits that change is difficult ' for her Although she appreciates and enjoys the new people she sometimes wishes things had remained "the way they were" By that she means that she liked the community Both Deb and Craig are involved in their community They are active in the I DS Church Craig as a City Council is chairman of the fire member He is also one of thirteen district elected members of the Utah League of Cities and Towns He was instrumental in getting the city computer and setHe sponsored ting its programs women’s volleyball and he has coached and sponsored Little League baseball and men’s fast pitch Deb is one the the "Super Moms" that you read about Besides working at Taco Time she manages the house sews quilts and serves as a story hour volunteer And she guides and meets the needs of her seven children! The Greathouses share and are committed to the "shop at home" If Deltans shop at home philosophy and keep the sales tax here property taxes would go down The responsibility needs to be shared by the merchants and the consumers Merchants need to be more competitive thus pros iding In turn centive for local buyers revenue would remain in town In order to achieve personal goals and satisfactions the Greathouses have made some sacrifices Their lives have included choices and trades They continue to wotk hard at their business as possible maining as autonomous under a franchise They enjoy being close to family and they appreciate the in Delta The path that relaxed was unknown ten years ago has become familiar Now Deb and Craig look to the future Forest Service offers passes may BankNow Want to b Your Sank 1986 iiiimiiiiiiiiimiiiiiiiiimimm DAYNITE TELLER TRIP FOR TWO TO Thar "WPT ' ‘ ‘ IJ5PS Cooperative Business of the Week education O comes to center Cz show you how to use the machine help you get your PIN number or new BankNow card and answer questions you may have about BankNow and the Sweepstakes Everyone who receives a demonstration wil also receive a 2 liter bottle of Diet Pepsi wik BankNow machines are open 365 days e year Bank when night— nient may for you win an BankNow exciting day and It’s conve- anytime!
