Show -- 8- DIXIE SUN A&E PEP BAND continued from page 7 Paxman said he wants to make an arrangement of Baby, by Justin Biebcr, but he has run into some trouble convincing the other band members. People are outright refusing, and I think its hilarious, he said. I think it would be fun. People love it. It would be funny. Another one he thinks would be a big crowd pleaser is Firework by Katy Perry. We like to make the crowd happy, Paxman said. Chamberlain said while arranging music can be a challenge, its not as hard as you might think. It just takes practice. Along with playing music, Paxman said the band also enjoys playing jokes on the crowd. At one game they attended, a man in the crowd had a sign that read "NO OLDIES." Every time oldies were played over the speakers he would hold it up, so after some consultation, the Pep Band members decided to play nothing but oldies the entire night, Paxman said. Life is all about making memories and Pep Band is no different. Pep Band is a great way to be involved with the school and have school they were playing against didnt have a band and only had a small cheerleading squad, so the band decided to have some fun with them. In an attempt to stir tilings up, the Pep Band decided to copy anything the cheerleaders said but switch it around, and throw it back at them. Some of the musicians requested the cheerleaders make a pyramid, but they didnt get a very positive reaction. They looked at us with blank stares and a lot of times with middle fingers, Paxman said. But the band wasnt going to give up that easily. Instead, they showed the cheerleaders how it was done and made a pyramid themselves. We really had fun with the opposing teams cheerleaders, Paxman said. "That was one of my best memories. The band doesnt travel all that often, but when it does, Paxman said its a blast. Chamberlain also said he feels like being a part of Pep Band has helped improve him as a musician. In the end. Pep Band is all about having fun, being loud, and making memories. We like to have fun, Paxman said. We like to be fun doing it. One of Paxman s favorite memories from Pep Band is when it traveled to Arizona a couple of years ago with the basketball team. The rowdy and rambunctious. And its good to know that people know were there. The whole attraction is basically St. ' George has a lack of haunted attractions, I four. time. BY MATTY JACOBSON Opinion Editor . people turn L,...., & k 1 to Las Vegas for their Halloween I getaways. If youre heading to Sin City to check out haunted houses, then chances are Cir-- . cus Circuss Fright Dome is on your radar. Its website touts it as being in the top five of America Onlines top 1 0 best haunted attractions list. Although I was surprised that AOL is still a thing, I decided to take its word and check it out. First of all, Fright Dome can be a bit burdensome on the Halloween budget. At al- most $40 a ticket, a student needs to be guaranteed he or she is going to have at least a good time, if not a great just a Halloween edition of a circus. This means in addition to their five separate haunted mazes, there are also games to play, rides to ride, and food to ingest. Be prepared to wait in line. Our group went on a Friday, and the place was packed. We waited about 30-4- 5 minutes per haunted maze. So go with a group of good conversationalists, or bring your smart phone. The waiting can be a bit daunting. But if you want to experience everything, then its inevitable. I suggest showing up as soon as it opens at 7 p.m. This will give you until midnight to go through the mazes and ride the roller coasters. We tried to get through all the mazes. Unfortunately, we arrived about an hour after opening, so we ended up making it through only Michael Myers House This was the first maze we went through. I have never been to a haunted house where a bad actor takes you through a tour of the maze. Im used to going through a maze where youre left to your own devices. So it was a bit of a surprise when a chick dressed like Magenta fi'om Rocky Horror Picture Show started guiding us through tire maze. Heres why it didnt work. If you go through a maze without someone explaining everything to you, then you dont know when the next scare is coming. When we followed this tour guide, she pointed out everything that would have been scary. We knew something was about to happen when she stopped us all and made sure we were all in the group. I started to expect things to happen every time she stopped us. By the end of the maze I was bored. This was definitely not a good way to spend $40. But after I knew how the mazes worked, I figured out a pretty good way to make the mazes worth it. Chainsaw Massacre This was the second maze we went through. This time we managed to get in on tire tail end of a bigger group. This was accidental, but it proved to be a good strategy. I held my group back and got lost from tire initial tour. By doing this, we managed to distance ourselves from a tour guide telling us when to get scared. This ended up scaring us even more because we couldnt figure out when the next actor was going to jump out at us. This maze ties as one of the best in Fright Dome. I felt the most vulnerable in this maze, and I think this was tire attraction that made me scream the most. This maze invokes every Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie to date. Its full of body parts, gore and, you guessed it, chainsaws. Hillbilly Hell Once I had figured out how to lose the group, I focused a lot on doing it. Again, the strategy proved successful. Hillbilly Hell is exactly what it sounds like. Its a maze focused on dirty, trailer trash, inbred yokels. There were definitely pas that were startling, but this maze relied too heavily on props. There were a lot of human-shape- d props throughout the which made me feel maze, I as though was in a museum or Spirit Halloween. There were a few gross-out wasnt expecting much it because it was another Halloween themed am But tire whole hospital ulc in and of itself was enough to creep me out. Again, I highly suggest getting to the back of the group. Once our tour guide was out of earshot, we had. better chance of getting scared. are low pipes and ceiling' This was the one maze to dud required the patrons to wont several times so they get hit.
