Show WEDNESDAY, Letter to the editor: another side to cafeteria complaints This is a response to Shannon Johnsons artice in last weeks edition, Cafeteria hours cause meal planners to forego food. It is 9 a.m. I have class until noon and then work in the Red Rock Cafe until 8. I have not slept longer than fiye hours the night before, and I have so much homework that climbing Mount Everest has greater hope for me. As a college student, I know that many have similar schedules, and life seems so hectic that simple necessities like eating and sleeping sometimes needs to come above anything and everything else. Sure, the cafe hours might not cater to the individual schedules of all, but in hindsight, since its establishment at Dixie State College, no student has died from hunger due to the hours of the cafe. As a college student who has lived in the dorms and worked as a member of the Campus Dining staff, I have had , the opportunity to see college life from both angles. Living in the dorms had its positives and has taught many lessons. The main lesson was the importance of time management and if properly enforced, life went smoothly with the hours at the Red Rock Cafe. I personally had to learn that the world did not revolve around me, and it was up to me to plan a time to go to the Red Rock to eat because the cafe was not based around the life and schedule of Jessica Hayward. The hours at the cafe are set so students have ample times and varieties throughout the day because not every student gets hungry at the same time, nor is able to arrive all at once. With simple time management and thinking ahead, no student should miss a meal due to the hours of the Red Rock Cafe, but rather due to markets surged W EnorEP a week in advance. The cafe also offers students opportunities to purchase meal vouchers to other restaurants using their already paid meal plan when the cafe is closed for major breaks or extended weekends. This guarantees the student will not have to pay for any food out of pocket but rather with their meal plan. In a world of change and continual striving for improvement, one must recognize where improvement needs to start and what ways in which to begin this process. As a poor planning. As a member of the Campus Dining staff, I do not understand how more staff working will improve a students lack of being able to read the many schedules posted throughout the cafe. The staff at Red Rock Cafe is sure to post any schedule changes student body supposedly united as one, shouldnt change first begin with us individually? Before we start to blame our frustrations and lack of contentment on others, we should take a step back and evaluate ourselves to see if we have tried everything within our power to create a change. It is from that this sometimes we realize that we have not tried enough and that the blame should really be focused on ourselves and not others.
