Senior offensive lineman Carlos Hernandez, an accounting major from Norwalk, Calif, said the offense played well even with some changes on the offensive line. The DSC volleyball team looked happy to be playing back in St. George on their home court after a hard road trip to Hawaii the previous week. Dixie played an NDNU team that has never won a match at Dixie in the two years they have played in St. George. Dixie maintained their dominance over NDNU on their home court, sweeping the Argonauts. Dixie was in control of the first game from the start and won Dixie players seemed to then lower themselves to the competition, making simple errors in the sec25-1- 7. setter Anna Bullard had five aces on the night. The team recorded 10 aces in their match against NDNU. Dixie continued Saturday where they left off on Friday, again handling NDNU in three straight sets, and Dixie played well, outdoing NDNU in almost every aspect. Dixie had 43 kills compared to NDNUs 24. Luna led the way again for Dixie with 15 kills. Senior middle blocker Mariesa Nielson added nine kills of her own. Bullard and freshman defensive specialist Jayci Jeffress both led the team with 13 digs 25-1- 25-1- 6, 25-1- 7 5. each. During the second half, the game was continually tied, but the defense made good plays and worked hard to keep APU from Dixie scoring any further. Saturday. It is well against a team that does not bring much intensity to the match, Jensen said. It is also hard for the fans to get into a game when there are not many good rallies during the games. Nielson, a communication major from Oak City, said it was a good week for the team, but there is room for improvement. We just have to play our game no matter what happens during the match, Nielson said. When we play at our level we do great. Dixie plays Grand Canyon University on Friday, their last home game of the season. If Dixie wins this match, they have a good possibility of taking third in the conference this year. BY TYLER ROBERTS Dixie Sun Sports Editor The Dixie State College men's soccer team played three games over the weekend, beating Grand Canyon losing to University Notre Dame de Namur and beating Northwest Nazarene The home win against GCU on Oct. 21 was the second win for DSC in its inaugural season as a team. Freshman midfielder Zac Hales provided all the offense the team needed, scoring in the eighth minute after stealing the ball near midfield and firing a shot from 25 yards out. Freshman goalie Ben Brooksby made the goal stand, recording six saves throughout the game, four of which came in the second half, essentially saving the game for Dixie. Head coach Danny Ortiz said it was nice to finally get a win. "Ben Brooksby did an outstanding job in the GCU game," Ortiz said. "He was definitely the player of the 0, 0-- 3, 2-- 1. school-sponsor- game." DSC only managed nine shots, with three of them on ' target, while GCU had 19 shots, six of them on target and 14 of them coming in the second half. Ortiz was pleased with the win against the Antelopes and the way his team fought. "The boys have played well all season," Ortiz said. "With exception to the two Notre Dame games, we have played well enough in every game to win, we just have come up short. With the win DSC overall and improved to 21-- 1 in conference play. The loss was the first conference loss for the Antelopes of GCU. The win was Dixie's second in conference play, putting them in sixth place in the seven-teaPacWest m Conference. The team then traveled to Belmont, Calif., to take on Notre Dame de Namur University where its lack of offense got the team in trouble again. NDNU just poured on tine offense against Dixie, with 17 shots on goal, eight of which were on target, and scoring three goals. "We just struggled getting the ball in the net as we " have all year." Brooksby did all he could to keep DSC within striking distance, recording four saves in 65 minutes of play. Dixie had chances but could just not convert its chances with seven shots, five of those on goal. Junior outside hitter Katie Luna played well and racked up 17 kills on the night. Freshman outside hitter Alex Shearer and junior outside hitter Cami Johnson both added six more kills to the total of 38 kills on the night for the team.
