Denning said: I think with his past experience with students he knows how to relate to us. Thats going to allow him to see students perspectives on things and explain things to us in a better way. For now, Beatty said he and his family are just glad to be home. I'm really looking forward to being here for several years, and maybe forever, Beatty said. It's thrilling to be coming back home. Denning said because of Beattys background being a student and part of student government at DSC, he knows what kind of work goes into putting on student activities and that will only help the college. Beatty has 16 years collegiate student services experience, most recently as dean of students at College of Eastern Utah. Prior to his tenure at CEU, he was the director of student involvement at SUU, where he worked for 15 years. He is a frequent speaker and presenter at a number of state, regional and national student service conferences and workshops, most recently at the Miss Dixie Homecoming pageant where acted as the MC and performed a duet with his wife. Beatty and his wife, Kimberly, are both graduates of Hurricane High School. Beatty attended DSC and served as a student body officer, performed with tjie program bureau, and performed at concert and chamber choirs. He was in several musicals, along with involvement in a number of Dixie Clubs, organizations and see DEAN page 2 how to reach us inside News Sports Arts & Entertainment Opinion Lifestyles 2 cen- ter, center for Hispanic students, career center and other traditional duties such as student judicial concerns. Beatty said higher education is a complex issue, and he has already made strong observations about the things he would like to change. He said his primary concern is the students and said anyone may contact him at his office, located in the Gardner Center in the hallway next to the student government room. He said he is passionate about social networks for students and helping students become involved in club's and committees. DSC has been without a dean for a few years, Beatty said, and though its hard to start in the middle of the academic year, he plans to start off slowly before making any big changes. Del came in during the middle of the semester, helping us out with things like Homecoming Week, said Student Body President Brock Bybee, a senior communication major from Roy. It seems like hes here to go to bat for the students, which is what the purpose of his position is. Dewey Denning, stu dent body vice president and a junior integrated studies major from Iona, Idaho, said Beatty is super qualified for the 2 ' 11 Dixie State College CareerFmancial Aid Bldg. 225 S 700 E St. George, UT 84770 dixiesundixie.edu 7c Dt.1 .(CO)) GDoUD Center for Media Innovation Phone: (435) Fax: (435) 652-781- 8 656-401- 9 |
