However, for the humble farm boy from Connor Creek, Idaho, playing football hasnt always been fun going to - and games. After his 2001 an LDS mission return from in Michigan, Udy walked on at Ricks College as a running back. Udy would prove to be an Croshaw cut a few deals and several took players Croshaws offer. Udy was one of them. After Ricks athletic programs were disabled there were many good football players who still wanted to DSC football coach play. Croshaw jumped at the Greg recruiting opportunity. I went up to Ricks to watch (the players) practice for their bowl game. I visited with some of the players, and they were pretty distraught (about the football program coming to an end), said Croshaw, regarding the recruiting opportunity. Coach (Croshaw) really seemed like a nice guy, said Udy of his coach. Udy felt the opportunity to play for Dixie State would not only give him a chance to keep playing football, but also keep in touch with some of his relatives in St. George. The 2002 Rebel fall camp came along with Udy as a new addition. Udy was slated to get a lot of playing time at fullback, but then things integral part of the teams offense in 2001 as Ricks went on to win a bowl game. After a disastrous injury that nearly ended his career, Mike Udy is back see Rebels choke Artichokes defense Rebels comes up big in win over Mesa CC by Jake Hendy Dixie Sun Staff Writer State started off slow weekend in Scottsdale, AZ in its win over the Artichokes. Maybe it was the fact the Rebels had to wait 30 minutes just to start the game while they waited for medical aid to show up. Dixie last 43-2- We 45, 0 cant show up to play for 50, or even 55 minutes. have to show up to play a full 60 minutes. Our intensity level needs to be up the full 60 minutes, I know mine sure We is, Coach Croshaw said after the Rebels win. State, for the second consecutive game, started Dixie off sluggishly with a turnover early. After moving the ball down the field the first drive of the game, the Rebels attempted their first field goal of the season. Cal Boehms kick was blocked and returned to the Rebel 30 yard line. The Artichokes went on to score the first touchdown of the game. The Rebels' game didn't click until the third quarter of play when they got a jump start on special teams by Colton Owens, who blocked got ugly. a Scottsdale punt in the end zone for a safety. Danny Southwick and Travis Brown, both Oregon St. transfers, complemented each other nicely as they connected for 170 yards and 4 touchdowns. Brown finished with 8 catches for 200 yards and 4 touchdowns, and for 243 Southwick was yards passing. The Rebels finished with over 509 yards total offense, and their defense held the Artichoke offense to 224 yards. Rebel running backs played solid. Fullback Mike Udy exploded through the line on a touchdown run with ten minutes left in the game. The Artichokes scored at the very end of the game, giving them 20 points. It was a great win, but I dont care if its 66 to 10, we still have to play with intensity for 60 minutes, Croshaw said concerning the Rebels' effort. The Rebels play this at 1pm against Saturday arch rival Snow College for 12-1- 5 d Homecoming. UDY page 10 on the field. |
