Show WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 1999 Feature Festival of Lights brightens Tuacahn Sun News Services Tuacahn's first Festival of Lights, which kicks off Nov 26, will include 250, OCX) individual lights that will illuminate trees, the buildings e and other fixtures at Tuacahn's campus in Ivins. "We're creating something that will eventually become the largest lighting display in Utah and one of the largest in the United States, Tuacahn CEO Kevin Smith said. "Even this first year, our magnificent red rock cliff backdrop will provide the perfect setting for one of the finest holiday displays you'll find anywhere m the world," he said. The Festival of Lights continues through Jan. 1. Smith estunates that up to 40,000 people will attend this first year and that, in future seasons, the numbers will grow far beyond that. "We're trying to provide something that will be a lasting treasure to our community," Tuacahn Artistic Director Jim Bennett said. "The Festival of Lights is a key element in expanding the positive impact that Tuacahn can have on the lives of the people of Ivins and beyond," he said. In addition to holiday lights, the Festival wdl include live performances, a nativity scene, several holiday tableaus, and possibly an ice skating nnk. comeIhock tee 1 DANCE The amphitheater will also feature an automated sound and lighting Chnstmas presentation. Santa Claus, brought to life by Ivins resident Don Martmdale, will also make several appearances. Recorded music will also be used to enhance the live perfomiances at the Festival. "Music will be the centerpiece of the Fesnval, said Bnan Larson, assistant producer at Tuacahn. "Choirs, bands, individual singers and dancers will make this a holiday season to remember" The Festival of Lights is made possible by a grant from the City of Ivins, the sole sponsor of the event. Smith said the event could potentially generate thousands of dollars in economic activity for the community. Fie noted that Tuacahn's last Summer Festival of Theatre was attended by over 100,000 patrons and the Festival of Lights has the potential to be even more successful.
