Show The Dixie Sun Page 12 February The ongoing soap opera of a single columnist Life seems to have a sense of humor lately. In four months, one of my best friends is getting married to my first true love. I wouldn't say it bothers me in a The Last UJIord bad way, but it's sure provoked a lot of thought. It seems that almost everyone is getting married and running off to the David rest of their lives. Just a couple years ago this friend of mine (his name is Tim) and I were makg calls" in class to annoy ing the teacher. A few years before that, we were riding dirt bikes and creating secret clubs. It's kind of funny how some of us can't imagine giving up the bachelor life, over where to and others are Johnson "pig-matin- pose, I discovered that she and I still got along very well. (Well enough to make him a little feisty, in fact). But it was obvious to both she and I that we were just friends, and her loyalty in love lay with Tim. A year and a half later, here I am arguing honeymoon. It had been about five years since I'd had any real contact with my ex when Tim started dating her. Instead of the awkward situation I thought this would being fitted for some outfit with lots of buttons and two tails. I had been hopeful that he would ask me to be in his line, and he did. I guess this is because (as A. Pilkington always says) when "one of the fellows" gets married, his number one priority becomes The Wife. He will almost always leave his family of friends and go to making his own family. So, at least I'll really be there when this begins to happen. I think these two friends of mine will last as a couple, but I'm not as confident about some of the others I know. Perhaps some of you believe in true love at first sight, and I'd like to, but it's a hard sell. With this in mind, I give you the couples who are getting hitched after knowing each other for (gasp) three weeks. I Can you spell hope not, but it seems like it would take a lot longer than three weeks to know if a per. son's worth giving up half the covers and leg room for every night. It's slightly scary to think someone would know what every pair of my underwear looks like, plus have as much access to my money as I do. Of course, her underwear might be scary, too. On the other hand, isn't that romantic!? Anyway, I look forward to the day I buy that girl a HUGE rock, slip it on her finger, and take her to an exotic island all our own (my phone number is ...). But it's not now. For all of you who are deciding to let yourselves become and are doing it now, do a grown-up- s good job! Or you'll scare the rest of us out of doing it someday.
