| Show The Salt Lake Tribune TRENDS C3 hday July 24 1992 Bachelor shower possibilities: If you can't beat 'en fete 'em there are some things women By Susan M Barbieri need to know before shopping for a bachelor shower gift The first area of concern is color Do not I repeat DO NOT buy things for a guy in the same colors you would buy for yourself Avoid pastels Too fem You can't go wrong if you stick with Certified Manly Colors such as black brown beige gray navy blue or white There is a color found only in the male world called "cordovan" Women know this color as "burgundy" or "wine" Cordovan is a Certified Manly Color and every man has — or would like to have — something cordovan in his home It's one of those "Rawhide" things "Salmon" has only recently come up for consideration as a Certified Manly Color Women know this color as "peach" but no man would be caught dead wearing anything called "peach" or putting something peach in his home Men don't even like to say the word "peach" unless the reference is to food "Salmon" while still highly suspect is gaining acceptance because fish after all are manly It's one of those Field & Stream things I like buying gifts for men For instance a guy friend of mine was using regular tumblers for wine glasses This bothered my aesthetic sensibilities and besides everybody knows that wine tastes wird i lasses that lack stems He probably only needed two but I bought four to offset the breakage odds ORLANDO SENTINEL The other day I had an idea so original I just might patent it Showers for bachelors I don't mean "shower" as in plumbing fixtures or summer rain I mean "shower" as in "to shower with gifts" — as in the female prenuptial ritual Only instead of giving a man a shower as a prelude to marriage make the shower a celebration of his bachelorhood This might be a tough idea for women to swallow but think of it as an exercise in reverse psychology Lighten up and have some fun Beating men upside the head about commitment doesn't seem to make any impact so why not confuse the bejabbers out of them by helping them celebrate their bachelorness?
