Show 6A The Salt Lake Tribune Saturday, June ' 25, 1983 Musing over memorable major movie miscastings By David Hinckley New York Daily News NEW YORK It is hereby suggested that those who have paid 45 to see Elizabeth Taylor tackle, subdue, and demolish the character of - Amanda in the current Broadway production of Noel Coward's Prl- - Comment vate Lives" can take a certain consolation in the fact that they have witnessed perhaps the most delicious bit of jniscasting in recent American drama. In fact, it serves as a reminder just how memorable major miscastings can be, and how rare the really good ones have been lately, even in that most reliable of all miscasting vehicles, the movie. Out of Element Clint Eastwood was out of Sure, his element as a country-Wester- n singer in Honky Tonk Man, but actually, no more than he was as a brooding, introspective military pilot in Firefox. Anyway, Its his own fault for deserting Dirty Harry. Cheryl Ladd stretched credibility slightly as a coal miner in the TV flick, Kentucky Woman, which door opened the for Jennifer Beals to play a welder in Flashdance; presumably they took those jobs because there werent any openings on the cover of ty Vope that month. Then there was Jane Fonda looking surprisingly awkward, albeit shapely, in On Golden Pond. But over all, miscastings of late have been slight rather than spectacular, the sad truth is that In lean times, the B movie is the first to suffer. Remember the shining days of perhaps the worst-camovie ever?
