Show 10 M The Salt Lake Tribune, Friday, December 17, 1982 Burlap socks, cosmic corncobs and Ozark Mountain Daredevils ences, said the bands sound has hillbilly roots. You cant hardly beat it (rockabilly). Its uptempo, theres humor in the lyrics and it is very danceable music. The Missouri band jammed around the Springfield area under such names as the Family Tree, the Emergency Band, Buffalo Chips & Burlap Socks, Rhythm of Joy and Cosmic Corncob & His Amazing Daredevils, before settling on the Ozark Mountain Daredevils. Granda isnt really sure who came up with the name, but it was one that kind of stuck. Anyway, he said, it is a name that has a little excitement and implies that something is going to happen. The Daredevils recently spent seven weeks touring Canadas maritime provinces and the eastern United States. They have been blending a half dozen new songs with 15 old favorites during their current tour, according to Granda. The band is now headed west for a four-shotwo-dastint at Park Citys Cowboy Bar. By Tom McCarthey Tribune Staff Writer Ozark Mountain Daredevils bassist Michael Supe Granda said he always had it in the back of his mind to be a professional musician. But that didnt keep the St. Louis, Missouri native from going to college. In my early teens I started goofing around, figuring out songs on the guitar, Granda related during a recent telephone interview. But, I kept going to school. That school was Southwest Missouri State in nearby Springfield, Mo. have been Hie Daredevils gether 10 years to- now, according to Granda, though the lineup has changed over the years. The current edition of the band, in addition to Granda, includes Gary Smith, lead guitar; Lloyd Hicks, drums; Joe Terry, keyboards; and Randy Chowning, vocals and guitar. Only Chowning has been with the group since the beginning. . Granda said the Daredevils have had the same musical influences as most every other band the radio, blues records, various stages of psychedelia and country influences. The origin of our music though, is of course, Memphis rockabilly. The Granda, who lists Chicken Train as the most requested Daredevil song by audi LAUNDRY Henley, Asylum. 9.
