Show 1 STRAIGHT CANYON TRIP PROMISES TO BE BIG AFFAIR The Weather Man being kind and considerate and we have every reason rea-son to think he will be that the big Easter excursion to Straight canyon, planned for tomorrow under the auspices aus-pices of the Orangeville-Ephraim Cooperative Co-operative road committee, seems to bear all the earmarks of a genuine big thing. Nearly every family figures to some extent on taking an "out" on Easter, and the idea of concentrating on some one place for both towns seems to have struck a responsij chord in the makeup of nearl yevery one in both towns. Mr. Brown, the engineer who had charge of the surveying done during the latter part of last season, arrived yesterday to finish up this part of the work, and the committee were in receipt re-ceipt of a wire late yesterday afternoon after-noon to the effect that C. H. Kendall would arrive on the stage today to join with the excursion. Mr. Kendall Is 'at the head of the Office of Public Roads, which department has taken over all the work which the forest service had underway. It is also expected ex-pected that the state road commission will be represented though word has not yet been received from them. Two o'clock has been set as the hour for camping for luncheon on the site of last year's government camp, and all who take part in the trip are requested to keep the place and hour in mind. A short impromptu program pro-gram will be held and Mr. Kendall and others will explain the plans for finishing the road. The project is going to be crowded right through ; and if you are there you will learn all ' about it. ' The people of Castledale and Or- j angeville placed their respective towns : on the map in most prominent fashion last spring when $2500 in cash and work was pledged for use on this road, and the $1000 that was expended ex-pended last season was used to such , good advantage that we now have a strip of road that any one could be proud of. Every bit of the work be-Low be-Low the forest boundary was voluntarily volun-tarily done and the government officers of-ficers are authority for the statement that the donation work cost less per rod than that of the paid work above, the boundary. The piece of road above the boundary, boun-dary, done by the state and forest service ser-vice jointly under the direction of the latter, is also a piece of road that any ! section of the state might be proud of. Maintained the full 16-feet wide and buttressed up in splendid style where fills were necessary, it takes a trip to the road and an understanding of what it was before the work was done, to appreciate to the fullest just what the road means to all the people of both towns. A good many of those who will ' make tomorrow's trip will go by team but this is not necessary for those who have cars as the road is understood to be in fair shape for cars and some work has been planned to be done that morning should any bad places develop. |
